  1. How can a questionnaire give you the information you need for my online evaluation?
  2. Aren't there other methods of evaluation that a naturopath would use in their office that you cannot use on-line like taking my pulse, looking at my eyes, etc..?
  3. What are the benefits of consulting by mail or e-mail?
  4. What are the drawbacks of consulting long-distance?
  5. Can I use you as my primary healthcare provider?
  6. I recall from your talks on Waldorf Connection that you shouldn't type a child before the age of 7 years old. Should all children younger than 7 be considered naturally sanguine? (Not sure if this is a consulting question, but I thought it might be a pre-consulting question.)
  7. In your "Teaching to the Temperaments" talk on The Waldorf Connection, you mentioned that you were seeking research participants on typing the child under 7, including prenatal typing based on how the pregnancy went. Are you seeking volunteer participants in general or through the temperaments classes or consulting only?
  8. I am signing up for the on-line consulting on the 23rd and it won't let me complete the registration unless I pay, but It says that students can register for free. How can I complete my registration. Thanks
  9. I won four-month group consulting forum membership. I received a reminder email for a session, but I don't really understand what its all about. I can't find details on the website either. Must I request a session on your website? How often are the sessions (there were 2 last week, none this week - maybe because of the holidays?) Are they always at the same time? What happens when you log on? (I was logged off last time) - must you immediately ask a question? or can you just "listen"? - do you listen or read text? Is there something going on in addition to the private chats? I want to test out one to see if it works for me, before end Dec. so that I can decide about buying in at the discount rate. Will there be another session? Thank you very much, I am so keen to get in contact. Carol.
  10. On your Google calender it says that there is OPEN consultations from 10am-12pm (for 27th Jan 2011). I had been hoping to speak with you today during this time, but am at a loss of how to do so due to it being between those times and on the "Live Consulting NOW" page you are signed off-line. Is this where open consultations are conducted? If, not, then where/ how are they done?
  11. hii karima, please hlep my kitty is not eating, drinking and is very sad. my 5-6 yr old orange tabby has been diagnosed with leukemia lymphomia cancer, something where in bone morrow doesnt make the red blood cells, can you do consultation for my cat in hwo to find natural cure with herbs and supplements to give him pain free life. vet recommended CHEMO with med like leukeran and predosone. please help as these meds have horrible side effects and may not even help with anything but make it worst. how to keep him healthy even if he lives short while. thank you. i am gettign milk thisle for him and also C-Caps is a 100% herbal formula and contains the following ingredients in therapeutic dosage: Ashwagandha, Cat's Claw, Astragalus, Milk Thistle, Mistletoe, Echinacea, Rice powder. is this good?
  12. I have been having symptoms that resemble Raynaud's disease. Numbing swelling of toes, fingers and lips when they encounter nything cold. A can, cold tile floor, frozen juice pops, etc. What can I do to stop this or is this an indication of circulation or vitamin deficiency?

  1. How can a questionnaire give you the information you need for my online evaluation?
A questionnaire is the central part of any evaluation, whether it be done in person, in an office, by mail or on-line. A basic questionnaire is part of every naturopath and herbalist's client communication even if you see them in person. These questions are usually based on the practitioner's own experience as to which questions will reveal answers to him or her. Not every practitioner has the same set of questions as each person see's people, health and life in a different way and thus needs to ask different questions to elicit meaningful responses for their evaluation. Thus a questionnaire is the cornerstone of every practitioner's work and is highly personal.

  2. Aren't there other methods of evaluation that a naturopath would use in their office that you cannot use on-line like taking my pulse, looking at my eyes, etc..?
Yes, but there are also still MORE methods that a naturopath can use on-line that are also used in the office or sometimes difficult to use in the office setting. For instance, the power of intuition is a strong factor in most evaluations. Many herbalists and naturopaths, even one's who have made a lifelong career in the field, will tell you that even after they evaluated their client through all physical means, the ultimate help came from their intuition about the client. A practitioner can intuit through mail, fax and e-mail in many ways. Handwriting, pictures, a person's name, the style of a person's writing, what a person says and does not say, which questions are left unanswered on the questionnaire and how the questions are answered, where a person lives, life history stories, and environment can help a person to know you even through mail.

  3. What are the benefits of consulting by mail or e-mail?
    1. You do not need to make an appointment (unless you opt to do part of your consultation by phone) . 2. It is more affordable. Office visits (including mine) are sometimes $100.00 or more. On-line visits are only $35.00 - $50.00 because there is no rent, phone bills or secretaries to pay in association with the consultation. 3. You can fit the consulting into your free time and even have "appointments" at midnight or after the kids go to bed. 5. You do not have to drive to the office. 6. You do not have to find a baby-sitter for the children. 7. You do not need to feel shy about discussing certain issues. 8. Many people can express themselves better on paper than by talking. 9. You have time to write down things and add to your thoughts at any time later. 10. You are not restricted to a certain half hour where you may forget to say something. 11. It is private. 12. It is an affordable way to supplement your present healthcare provider's limited time for you when you need more time but cannot get it.

  4. What are the drawbacks of consulting long-distance?
The practitioner is unable to note physical signs that may help them evaluate you such as facial expressions, pulse, color of skin, eye readings, body language, fluid analysis and other physical forms of analysis. This the ONLY drawback to consulting long-distance. A skilled practioner can obtain the same information using other methods. You would be surprised what even a simple two sentance e-mail can reveal about a person, their temperament and their health to someone with a "skilled eye".

  5. Can I use you as my primary healthcare provider?
I do not recommend that. An evaluation by mail is meant to be a supplement to your present health care provider's service and NOT A SUBSTITUTE. You can, however, use on-line consulting as an ONGOING supplement and not just for a one-time evaluation. You will be able to gain insights into your problems that may not be clear from just one person's perspective and you will be able to talk about issues that you may not be able to discuss otherwise, or issues for which there is limited time for discussion. My consulting service focuses heavily on TEACHING the client, rather than "telling them what to do", which is greatly beneficial on an ongoing basis.

  6. I recall from your talks on Waldorf Connection that you shouldn't type a child before the age of 7 years old. Should all children younger than 7 be considered naturally sanguine? (Not sure if this is a consulting question, but I thought it might be a pre-consulting question.)
I've stated before in my talks that Steiner has recommended not typing a child before the age of seven. However, from all indications and experience I've had over focusing on this area for over 20 years - a child can be typed before the age of seven and even when they are still in the womb. This can be done by a person who is intuitive and well- versed in temperament and typology. However, I do recommend re-evaluating the child at age seven to see if anything has changed or developed. This can happen in some cases. However, the benefit of evaluating the child earlier is not lost. If a child is phlegmatic before the age of seven or sanguine and then develops into a melancholic, the parent/teacher has still been able to benefit from the insights into the active/dominant temperament before age seven.

Are you seeking volunteer participants in general or through the temperaments classes or consulting only?
I have usually been taking notes during consultations when I find someone was recently pregnant or starts telling me a story about their pregnancy. However, I am welcome to gathering information in any way I can :) If you want to participate you can submit a description of your pregnancy along with the temperament your child is now and I can add it to the files. Thank you! Blessings & Health, Kristie

The sign-up button for students is on another page. If you go to the forum page I have actually placed a link to the student page at the top because some people were getting confused. There are two ways to sign up for the consults if you are a member - you can log in and go directly to the member forum sign-up page OR you can go to the public FORUM page and link from there using the link at the top of the page that says "Members Register HERE". In both cases you do need to be signed in as a student or Lifetime member of Earthschooling to be able to access the page.

I've made the process much easier now. You can now log in and check out the schedule on one easy page: http://thebearthinstitute.memberlodge.com/groupconsulting You were logged out of the meeting last time because you arrived at 3:30pm during a private meeting. The group meeting was in the evening at 8pm. This was my fault - it was before I started using pass-codes for meetings so this will not happen again as now all meetings have pass-codes (so it would be impossible to enter a private consult meeting). I just posted new sessions today. You should have received an e-mail with the link and schedule. Let me know if it did not arrive :) These meetings are for purposes of helping members with anything in the category of health and homeschooling. Members attend the meetings to ask questions about their health and to ask questions about homeschooling. We have also had quite a few temperament discussions. Most members find it fun to discuss everything with the open chat option because then they can get input from other members as well as me and it is a fun way to meet people. Other members have chosen to click "private chat" and chat with me privately about more personal issues (mental illness, student work, clients, etc...). These group consulting sessions are like getting a private consultation from a health care practitioner (I am a Master Herbalist and Naturopathic Doctor) or a Waldorf homeschooling consultant. The only difference is that each person who attends using gets about 20 minutes of my time instead of the hour they would get during a personal consult. This actually works well for most people because a lot of questions only take 20 minutes and those that don't - they just come back for the next session and we finish. Let me know if you have additional questions.

OPEN on the calendar means I am available to take private consultations. These are on the calendar for the purpose of scheduling private consults. Open hours for Group Consulting members will be in the evenigs (or some times during the day) and will be on the schedule starting in February. At this time I do not have them on the schedule. The "Live Consulting Now" page is the place where you will go when these are happening.

Dear Tehmina, I am glad, via your Facebook message, that your cat is now doing well. For future questions there are two things that will help you: 1. To receive consulting you need to sign up for a consulting appointment at: www.herbnhome.com - I do accept urgent appointments by phone, e-mail, chat or Skype. I am not able to provide consulting via the FAQs page. 2. If you are waiting for a reply and you don't hear from me please check my "notice" page on Facebook (you can link to it from the FAQs page on the website or go to: http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Kristie-Karima-Burns-MH-ND/149528928430703) I was actually unable to work for four days last week (the day your question arrived) because I had two torn corneas and was unable to see or use my eyes. During the time when you posted your message I had this information posted on my Facebook page. Blessings & Health, Dr. Kristie Karima Burns, MH, ND

Due to ethical, professional and legal reasons I do not offer consultations via the FAQs page or without a full evaluation. If you would like to schedule a consultation please visit the consult page on the www.TheBearthInstitute.com website or link directly to www.HerbnHome.com. Thank you!
