Pop Quiz - The Mark Teixeira Situation

Pop Quiz - who can spot the irony in the Mark Teixeira trade deadline sweepstakes?

The same thing was going on exactly a year ago?

Re: Pop Quiz - The Mark Teixeira Situation

That is true.

But there is a this-year element that is quite ironic.

Since Asher is asking I assume it has something to do with his home-away splits.

Ha ha. Funny, but no.

The irony is that of all the teams currently in contention for the playoffs, the Rangers are the ones with the most dire needs at first base.

Actually, it might be difficult to consider them "in contention."

Asher, Chris Davis. Chris Davis, Asher. I'm sure you two have much to discuss.

Wow, 27 games into his career and he is over a third of the way to Joe Carter's career batting runs total.

Re: Pop Quiz - The Mark Teixeira Situation

I made a crack in a previous article about how it was silly to point out that the Arizona Diamondbacks wouldn’t part with Conor Jackson in order to get Mark Teixeira because Jackson is their best hitter, and you don’t trade your best hitter to improve your offense. I’m not saying that Casey Kotchman is the Angels best hitter, but I am as baffled by the trading of Kotchman as I am by the suggestion that Arizona was going to trade Jackson.

Do the Angels really intend to sign Teixeira after the season, or are they convinced that their two corner infield studs at Triple-A will be ready next year? Because unless the answer to at least part of that question is yes, as the quote from Men at Work goes, the Angels just threw away a perfectly good white boy.

Apples and oranges, in my view.

OPS/PrOPS

----- Kotchman Jackson

'07 - 839/791 836/851
'08 - 792/774 911/862

I know Kotchman is young, but he's a small price to pay for Teixeira. After the 1995 debacle, I don't blame management for wanting to make sure they win the division. And if the Angels weren't the favorite to win it all before, they are now.
