I think we've been unfair to Dave Kingman
You know, Kingman has the gaudy numbers, and they are easy to make fun of, but check this out: Dave Kingman retired with 1941 games played, 442 homeruns, and 100.3 batting runs, a truly horrible total. But Joe Carter finished with 2189 games played, 396 homeruns, and a shocking 19.1 batting runs!!!!!!!!! Joe Carter finished with fewer career batting runs than Ryan Ludwick already has this season. 19.1 batting runs does not make the top 1000 of all time. Here are the players currently tied for 1000th all time with 26 career batting runs, with more than Joe Carter: Jose Cardenal Jack Hiatt Bo Jackson Ron Kittle Andy Leonard Candy Nelson Claude Ritchey Don Slaught |

Yeah, but if we name an award after Carter, it'd have to be something about malapropisms or bad broadcasting in general, not his overrated play. |
