Ray Fosse Is A Joke
In the Athletics' broadcast today, Fosse said that he didn't know what Sabermetrics was. His play-by-play partner had to explain it. I can understand casual fans not knowing what it is. I can understand baseball anouncers like Joe Morgan relying on his innate baseball wisdom rather than searching for answers through data and statistical analysis. I cannot understand the color announcer for the Oakland Athletics not knowing what Sabermetrics is. That would be like the color announcer for the Giants not knowing what overpriced veterans are. An inning later, Fosse was wondering who the leading vote-getters on the Hall of Fame ballot from last year were. Again, not every fan is interested in that and might not know. A paid baseball analyst had better know. Ray Fosse is about as prepared for his broadcasts as Ron Santo. At least Santo is entertaining. |

I wonder whether Fosse was being purposefully indifferent. Because anyone affiliated with the A’s not knowing about SABRmetrics is like Someone from the Cubs not knowing about Steve Bartman. Someone from the Giants not knowing about BALCO. Someone from the Yankees not knowing about A-Rod’s divorce. Someone from the Rays not knowing about the Devil. Someone from the Orioles not knowing who Jeffrey Maier is. Someone from the Reds not knowing that Ken Griffey has had some injuries. Someone from the Rockies not knowing about the humidor. |
