It is indeed silly when we are talking about changes in the genetic code that occurred about a quarter of a billion years ago. We don't have the genes of the predecessor and we don't have the genes of the progeny. So exactly how could you know the exact mutations that occurred?
We can understand evolutionary processes by comparing fossilized tissue. We won't have it for these structures because they don't fossilize.
Beyond that, this is a question of science not geometry. This exercise would neither prove or disprove evolution.
