Jamm For Genes

Just got home from Jamm For Genes.

The guys were sans suits, the set was fairly standard they played for about 45 minutes and yes, they have a brand new guitarist Shaun.

I'd post a set-list, but my brain is a little fuzzy (no I did not drink!) so I shall return to this at a later time.

Re: Jamm For Genes

In actual fact Billy the price for the Jamm For Genes tickets dropped the week of the show. It went from $50 down to $30 and you could get a special 2 for 1 thing, where you could get 2 tickets for the price of one.

It was insane. They should've sold the tickets for that price to START with and they would've gotten more people. I think they had a maximum of about 100 people there. Such a shame, as they could've raised some good dollars for CMRI and research into genetic disorders.

Re: Jamm For Genes

So what was the gig like?
Any comments by Rai about this new fella and all that 'water under the bridge' stuff??

Give us a quick guitarist-comparison-thingy... ie. were you disappointed with the new guy or is he as good?
Pleeease tell us

Re: Jamm For Genes

Hmm, to be completely honest my emotions and feelings on the night were different to how I'm feeling about it now. I guess after some time and coming to grips with the shock I've been able to look at it more objectively.

I felt pretty neutral on the night about the whole thing. It wasn't better, nor was it worse, it was the same yet somehow different.

Weird hey?

I must say that Sean is definitely a good guitarist, but I could tell that Rai was covering for him on a few instances. I think that the upcoming tour he should be better prepared for the onslaught, and handle all the tunes. I just think Jamm For Genes was only a couple of weeks after Matt had left and so didn't give him much time to practice up.

I did feel that the gig was lacking in energy, but that could've been in part due to the audience being seated (poo to that).

The music itself hasn't really changed so much, the songs still have the same quirky pop-rock Aussie vibe.
But there was *SOMETHING* about the shows that Matt performed that made it crazy, intense, funny, memorable and I guess that's going to be gone now.

I'll still be going along to check the guys out on their upcoming album launch tour. So I guess better reviews will come to hand then.

Re: Jamm For Genes

I agree with everything The Travelling Jeweller has said. All i have to add is that the new guy sings a bit too. There was a nice three part harmony at the start of my completeness instead of the usuall Rai and Phil harmony.
Staying seated for the gig wasn't fun either! I was really tempted to jump up and dance like a fool, but then thought better of it.
