New Guitarist
So, what do people know about this "Shaun" character? Is he any good? Is he from Dubbo? Does he have a last name? What does he look like? Personally, I'm devastated to see Matt go - does anyone know why he left? I'd be interested to read everyone's thoughts on the matter! |

Yeah, I think we're all with you on the devestatedness   No idea about the new guy. Guessing we'll learn more soon though, what with album launch nearly upon us and all. |

LoL, don't worry about evolving Noni, it's overrated anyway! Just a thought - does anyone know if the change is permanent? I got an email from my bro, he said "They had an extra guy, sean beamer (i think his name was) filling in for matt baker, any idea why?" and that got me thinking Sean/Shaun was doing just that - filling in? Like maybe Matt couldn't play that night, perhaps he was busy.....washing his hair or....something.... Eh, just a thought (a hope really). Someone in the know, (preferably you Matt!) we'd all love you clear this up!! |

Don't think Matt was just washing his hair, since the Mercs have removed the fella's pic and info from their official website.... Unless Matt was having a REEAALLY bad hair day...  But haven't you guys noticed that Matt just never seemed as enthusiastic/happy-go-lucky as the others? Check out their homevideo clips on their site and you might see what I mean.

Shaun/Sean Beamer is "the new guy" but I'm not 100% certain if he's the permanent new guy. Sorry to burst anybody's bubble, but Matt's departure is permanent. And speaking of Matt....cheeky Matty posting that link to Tonemarket! You should've posted the name Mandi Jarry instead, or is that giving away too much??

Hello people... have been watching said discussion with interest... As this is a public forum, I will keep my comments carefully 'sanitised'. Matt left the band because he has other aspirations within the music industry, that don't include what was happening within the Thirsty Merc camp. This has been brewing for a long time, but only reached a head the other week. He has decided to focus on his production/songwriting company, 'Tonemarket', build a roster of quality pop artists, and remain extremely active within the music scene - in a capacity that brings out his 'happy-go-luckyness' once again. (ouch) Thanks to all your guys for the continuing support,hope to have you watching Matt's 'miserable' face somewhere on a Rage playlist near you....Oh, and I hear the new guy IS hot...  PS for more of the 'info', email Babs. Hi Babs. How's yer fish?? |

The merc wont be the same without Matt..  but the band still rocks and I wish Matt nothing but the best! As long as you're happy..we should be too!! And thanks Matt for being so great and clearing it up for us abit!! ...I have a feeling we havent seen the last of you!... |

Quite frankly, I don’t blame Matt for leaving… I mean, if I was in a band I liked, I would have run for the hills ages ago… I mean, how many people write a letter to a band when they can’t go to a gig because of an excursion…? Lame… I am truly sad… I think we have all come to conclusion that when a member of a band you love departs, whether permanently or temporarily, you feel like you’re losing a friend you’ve come to care about. It’s almost like a piece of yourself has melted into the mists of loss and melancholy. You don’t know if you’ll see them again, and if you do, you’re not sure if it will be in the same light as before. You know they will always be special, but there will always be something there that makes you wonder where they could have gone. You wonder about their future- are they happier now? Or will it all turn sour again? Fate is certainly a fickle thing, but should we question it and the power it holds over our will? Was it REALLY fate that brought on this person’s decision? The bigger picture I think, however, should also include the person’s feelings about the other people in the group. Are they truly bitter at them as people? Can they still be friends? Are they? I understand that forgiveness is a hard task, but it’s better than getting kicked in the **** later by the almighty karma…! (Heaven knows I’ve still got the boot-mark in my bum from last time!) I really hope that this isn’t the way it ended. War is never a good thing, even if it’s one of words. I’m not trying to interfere too much or infer anything (cue everyone going, “Hey, is she accusing Matt of being ********** or “Is she saying that Rai, Phil and Karl are turds?”) it’s just that I worry easily about people (even if the only way I know them is through the occasional e-mail, post on a message board, music or five minute chat and photo op after a gig), and I am genuinely worried about the situation here, and I don’t want to say something further down the line that will offend anyone (And I know I will!). I realise this won’t all just “blow over” but I just wanted to check everything was kind of okay, because music and those who play it are two of the most important things I have as they’ve helped me get through so much, and if the band itself is in inner turmoil, then how am I supposed to use their music to help me get over mine? I just hope this whole issue wasn’t as bitter as the vibe it seems to be giving off and if I’ve said anything to offend anyone here or anywhere, including Matt or the other fellas or this new guitarist (who I must admit, I do feel a little bit sorry for; coming in at such a bitter time) feel free to e-mail me and ***** at me. I’m on the Whitlams mailing list. I can take it. **** it Matt. You’ve made me all philosophical. And my head hurts because I’ve got a cold. I’m barking like a dog and I’m pretty sure that last night someone transplanted my nose with a tap. I guess I’ll just blame Rai. Noni |

I have only seen the Merc 3 times , twice supporting Superjesus in Sydney and then their single launch at the Annandale a few weeks back and even I am sad to see Matt go... I am going to both shwos in Sydney next weekend, Sat and Sun so I will see what this new guy is like... and I am so happy I found this site thanks ! has anyone got any live recordings of the merc ? I would love to get the annandale show a few weeks back if its out there ... |
