it has the headline leave it 2 beaver and a pic of them with matts head crossed out in red

its all good that they r getting known but it make me sad.
it seemed to take the angle that matt left because he didnt like rai

Re: metro article

I am ABSOLUTELY disgusted in this article, and as far as I'm concerned, the gloves are off...I refuse to be slandered by this continually unprofessional organisation, and I strongly urge any of you that feel the same, to make your opinions known to the Thirsty Merc management:
artist@coadygroup.com
so they can stop treating you guys, i.e. the loyal fans, like fools; and me like an outcast.
I am very, very angry about this right now... there has been some dirty politiking within this organisation, but this just defies all professional logic.

Re: metro article

Yeah, checked out the SMH article...

This journalist seemed pretty cynical. His style really ****ed me off. What Rai said about the humour and Aussies an' such, was well said and that's just the thing I most enjoy about the Mercs. Music and humour with underlying messages are rare to come by.
The Mercs do a good job at it. Thanks to Rai for his brilliant lyrics.

I live in Europe and I've never come across another culture that can make light of almost any situation like the Aussies - in a positive manner. That's what I miss about Oz...

To tell you the truth, I'm not really bothered by Matt's departure and am glad Merc's got Sean (whoever he is).

Hope the band gets better publicity in future- they deserve it.

Re: metro article

Yeeah, well, you being so very far away geographically speaking makes it understandable that you shouldn't really care about the loss.

But the thing is, we do.

Because we know Matt - we've seen him rock the joint on multiple occasions, we know he's an excellent guitarist - and furthermore, a nice guy. Who is the only member (okay, now ex-) of the band to frequent this forum? Who's the (happy-go-lucky, I might add) one who always makes time to spend chatting with fans?

It's Matt. And the fact that you don't know this makes you ill-qualified to comment.

Okay, that was harsh. I'm sorry, that SMH article has got me wanting to bite someone. I hate the media.

Re: metro article

I was outraged, I swear I spent a good 10 minutes swearing and yelling into the air when I saw the article.
I can't believe that the Sydney Morning Herald would stoop to Daily Telegraph-style tabloid imagery and articles.

*is utterly disgusted*

I have to agree with Babs on the previous point too, a lot of us have developed relationships with the individual members of the Merc. And for such things to be said in a public medium (such as a newspaper article) only serves to hurt our feelings just as much as those involved.
It's only natural for those of us with friendships to those involved to jump to their defence. I think that's why we take offence as much as Matt does.

I however will voice my disproval directly to the newspaper.....

Re: metro article

Delicious. Wonderous. Glorious. Yummy. Sorry, I was talking about my dinner...

I don't usually get cranky at the media (gotta love the hand you want to feed ya!) but that article was just downright dirty. I mean, I've done a media course at school and heard and read some shocking newspaper stories, but that was mean. I mean, MEAN.

A lot of my favourite bands have gone through line-up changes (ie The Whitlams, The Gadflies) but it's all worked out for those concerned in the end (except Andy Lewis, but that's for another time...). Did any of the remaining member bag the former-member out? No! Did the media make a ruckus? No. I think that SMH should realise that these things happen sometimes and that people move on. It's called LIFE. And I think that particular journalist needs to get one.

May the editor rot in hell for letting that piece of guttertrash get into the paper. Disgraceful. And that comes from a wannabe journo.

Then again, we shouldn't underestimate the public opinion. I think that people realise that news is always going to be biased and that they should take pieces from multiple sources and make up their own mind. Those that don't realise that are the true d-ickheads.

I also think Rai should have had a bit more of a conscience. Matey, I've got two words for you. "No Comment."

This whole media sheemozzle is nothing but a spacefiller for a newspaper. And let me tell you, if I ever meet the little turd who wrote this piece of rubbish, they are going to find out what it means to cross a big, fat, angry teenage gal with attitude. (Okay, so I'll yell and scream profanities at them that would make the censor on this board blush, but I can dream can't I?)

To conclude, this piece was unneeded garbage that only wasted five minutes of my precious time. Excuse me, but I'm going to go and listen to some Epicure to try and calm me down. And if that don't work, I've got Mum on standby with the tranquiliser... Disgraceful...!

I'd so be s-hit at journalism.

We love you Matty boy. Especially since I'm going to the Dubbo Jazz Festival tomorrow (Sunday). I think.

You go Babs!
I was thinking of doing an article myself, titled:

"From Baker's Hot Buns, to a Nice Hot Beaver"...

Re: metro article

Good for you if Matt's in touch with the fans, but that's not why I listen to the Mercs. I listen to them cause they sound good, even if it's on cd alone.

Get off your high-horse Babbs.

My guess is, without Rai there would be no TM. Glad there is!

without coming to this board, i would have believed that article. hmm, the shady world of the music industry.
I'll miss you Matt! But look forward to knowing of your future projects. Keep us all informed

Re: metro article

Look, I'm totally endorsing the fact that you are entitled to your own opinion, and I like to think I'm entitled to mine -- even if it doesn't coincide with yours.

So who's on the high horse here exactly? As moderator, I could have deleted you from this forum, or I could have banned your IP and stopped you from being able to access it entirely.

But I did none of that. Free speech, ****it. I just wanted to say something back -- because I know Matt, and I know this situation, and it isn't right.

Surely you can appreciate that.

Re: metro article

Yes I must concur with Noni on this point regarding previous other band member-leaving-experiences.
I've also had my fair share, one in particular that mucked me around a bit was Dan Hall departing from Taxiride in '00.

Admittedly the circumstances were slightly different, but there was no nasty press that involved band members commenting on the departure. And furthermore there was no imagery used like that which was used in this Metro article.

Add this to the fact that this publicity (which in my honest opinion is *NOT* good) is just prior to the album being released.
WHO in their right mind would approve to conducting such an interview regarding such a tumultuous and awkward topic????

The mind boggles.........

Re: metro article

I realize alot of you are upset by what's happening with Matt an' all, but as an 'outsider' this is almost starting to sound and look like a Matt's Fans Forum. Have you guys all lost interest in the band itself?

Have to admit, I don't exactly know all the gory details concerning the 'break', but I'm afraid I still think the band's great! Is that not acceptable?

Also, am pretty surprised that it even occurred to Babs to delete me for such flimsy reasons (which aren't even quite clear to me).

Strange...

I totally agree: everyone's entitled to their own opinion. Hope it stays that way too.

Ps.does Matt still want to be in the band? If not & he hates the guys, he's better off now and perhaps shouldn't be in their fans forum bad mouthing them...

(wonder how many will delete me for exercising my freedom of speech this time? )

Re: metro article

Meh, I think I agree with everyone here in some way.

Yeah, on a personal level, I don't like to see Matt go because as someone said he did seem to be the friendliest, easiest to talk to, in my experience. He comes on the boards, he's always available after gigs for a chat and he's not a bad guitarist to boot.

I agree too that the article wasn't the best, but I think that can be attributed to Rai's comments as opposed to the actual writing. The journo was just reporting on Rai's interview, which is obviously going to be subjective. Though, it wouldn't have hurt to seek Matt out for a comment to balance it out. I'm most pi$$ed off about Rai's comments though, I thought he could have handled the interview with a bit more tact, but I guess that's just his style.

HOWEVER despite this I will be very interested to see the direction the Merc take as a band. This Sean guy's a complete mystery to me - for all I know he could be the absolute perfect fit and become my new favourite. Who knows.

I guess basically I think that the article was a bit dodgy, and that Sean has MASSIVE shoes to fill, but he - and the rest of the band - should be given a chance to prove themselves before we jump on their back.

Re: metro article

My god, why am I still talking about this?? After this post I will shut up.

None of us have lost interest in the band. I think we are all excited about the launch (wheeee, album out tomorrow!) in our own ways, but it's a bit overshadowed by all this, and understandably so.

I for one have been following this band for over a year, and Matt leaving is a BIG CHANGE. The whole is greater than the sum of it's parts, and I know you think Rai is central to the band and all, but those boys all work hard and losing any of them would represent a big loss.

Have you ever seen them live? Because that's what it most comes down to. If you haven't, I am sorry for you, because they are 10 times better live than on disc. And that live performance is going to be affected by this (although, I agree with you camel spit, about trying to keep an open mind -- and am nervously twiddling my thumbs til the gaelic club gig).

But eurochick, are we not supposed to care just because you don't?

As for this forum turning into Matt's fans forum, tough cookies. I find it bizarre that you can agree "everyone's entitled to their own opinion" and then go directly on to saying Matt shouldn't post in this forum.

Look, forget it. You think I'm on a high horse and I think you're being ignorant, whatever. Agree to disagree or something, because I don't think we're ever going to settle this.

Okay, and now I'm done. Album instores tomorrow people!!

Re: metro article

My friend got the album a day early... Lucky sod.

It took me an age to get this: Sean Beaver= SHORN Beaver! (Well, I thought it was funny... It struck me in the middle of the 10th Avenue Jazz Band's set today. )

The other fellas had better swing on by soon... I want to give this new guitarist a proper induction. Possibly involving a game of Spit and a raw egg... Hmm...

And Matt, you owe me a game of Spit! (Sucked in!) The card game that is...
