No more Matt :(

Gosh I couldn't believe the terrible news ..

For me, it's all about Matt !! Right from my first discovery of the Merc .. back at Maroon 5, through when I proclaimed my love (as any good fan does ) at Martin Place up until their last concert at the Annandale.

I'm devastated. Thirsty Merc is very much ruined for me. Sure I went out and bought the cd today, but concerts without Matt? And his disapproval? What a dampener !

Re: No more Matt :(

Take heed fellow fan (of the Merc & Matt)

I think it's important to remember that despite Matt no longer being a part of the LIVE element of Thirsty Merc, we can always remember him and his awesome talent on recorded material.
Believe me, listening to the album has been such a great way of recalling the fun of those lives gigs where Matt was such an energy. "Get Over Myself" and that guitar solo will always be HIS in my memory!

But I also must say that this isn't the end for Matt (as he himself said) and Babs or possibly myself will be kept in the know regarding Matt's future endeavours.

So if you honestly are a fan of Matt's talent and work, you can always inquire as to what he's doing via Babs and if curiousity tickles, you can venture off to see his new projects.

Geez I'm very Zen-like lately......

Re: No more Matt :(

I am truly awed by the affection you guys have shown me! It's kind of weird to read about yourself like that...
I have decided to write this as a sort of 'thank you and farewell' to all of you guys - in keeping with my nature, and in light of the extremely upsetting events of last Friday's article in the SMH, I am removing myself from all Merc related situations - it WAS amicable, but now it's gotten silly, and I'm not interested in putting bad vibes out to current and continuing fans of the band, and plus, I am flat out getting on with a much more positive situation for me...
At present, I am about to start playing, writing, and producing with a variety of artists, including a wonderful gal called Mandi Jarry, under my new company name 'Tonemarket'... If you guys are interested in tracking any artists, or me, the website is www.tonemarket.com (not up and running JUST yet) and my email is: mattyjbaker@hotmail.com
I hope I can bring to these projects the energy and dedication that you guys say I have brought to the Merc - i am truly humbled by your affection!!! I have made a choice regarding the way I see the internal workings of a high-visibility 'pop' band - it might look easy, but believe me, if the elements don't work together, it is worse than ANY departmentstorefastfooddayjob in existence! (and I know, I've done them ALL...)
Music is SUCH a personal thing, such an amazing thing, and completely necessary for humanity to stay 'human'... As a professional musician, you find yourself imbued with the utmost responsibility - to sell your 'talent', and your 'vision' to you guys -
the fans...
When you stop believing in what you are doing, you are in effect, deceiving the people that put you there in the first place - something that I personally have NEVER been able to do - and that is lie to anyone. As witnessed by anybody at the Annandale Single launch gig, my last gig, I got quite upset at things towards the end of the show, why??? Because I finally admitted that I was lying to myself, and YOU GUYS, about selling the Merc's 'message'...My personal feelings on that message are neither here nor there, I just couldn't continue with the band, feeling like I was cheating people. Most performing 'pop' artists have no problem with 'rolling out the barrel' night after night, but that was never, ever part of my live performance - what you saw was what you got, and that is - in my new projects - what you will continue to get...!

I wish all of you the best of health and happiness...Thanks heaps for your support, with the notable exception of Eurochic (!!!) but, horses for courses, baby! You're entitled to your fresh beaver...

We all have to make some difficult choices in this life, but make sure you choose with open eyes, open minds, and very careful hearts, and as always:
CAVEAT EMPTOR....
and words that kept me here, from a very good friend of mine:
BE TRUE TO YOURSELF....

Thanks for listening! See you cats 'round the traps...
xoxo

Re: No more Matt :(

Don't let me get under your skin, mate. (I'm a bit too far away/old for that)

Take care Matt.
Best of luck in the future!

Hope Tonemarket works out for you.
Honestly.

Re: No more Matt :(

Tears here too, but that was because I had to sneeze... (I cry when I sneeze! )

Well, I guess it is truly the end of an era. RIP to the fab four arrangement we have come to know and love, RIP to seeing Matt live and rockin' but also...

HERE'S TO A NEW BEGINNING...

Let's all be happy... Go to a gig, and Camel Spit, since you're like me, stuck in Dubbo, we'll just be strong and wait with baited breath for the next nearby date to pop up!

We love you Matty Boy.
