I'm in S. Austin & would like to get a small untraviolet light to examine points with. Any known suppliers in my side of town?

Try looking under ultraviolet lights in the Austin Yellow Pages

Re: Small Battery powered Ultraviolet Light?

I've got one with a 6 inch bulb, 4 AA batteries. Got it from a novelty specialty catalog, sorry I cant find the catalog right now...Maybe Google for it !

While in the Yellow Pages, you might note the number for DWYERS LAPIDARY SUPPLIES......Rock hounds are big on things that glow in the dark.

I pushed the post button too soon....If all else fails and you have to go with a plug in....Home Depot definitly sells the UV bulbs, Use your lamp fixture from home or buy one of those "under counter" slimline fixtures !

Re: Small Battery powered Ultraviolet Light?

does this this method work pretty well? I 've heard of finding arrowheads or flint with uv light.

Re: Small Battery powered Ultraviolet Light?

Flint changes colors under UV black lights.Grey flint is a dark orange and if there is any rechipping it will glow a bright orange under the light. Some flint like black flint is a dark purple color and banded points are real cool to look at.
Some times if you are not holding the point just right you will miss the rechipping and new points just don't show you anything at all.
The sure fire way to find fakes or rechipped points is to get a 10x to 30x microscope and learn the right way to use it.

You can buy a small pocket uv lamp from petsamart or other large pet chains It is used to find urine spots or stains.
check out A quilt or bedding cover the next time you stay in a hotel You will never use them. Mine automaticly go right to the floor and call housekeeping for extra sheets or light blankes

Re: Small Battery powered Ultraviolet Light?

Pat from TexasCache has a working relic finder that she wont let anyone use. I think it has some kind of light source and pinger that locates points. Maybe she will let people in on it if enough people say something about it.

Re: Small Battery powered Ultraviolet Light?

Well now, I have a Working Relic Finder, a three-prong garden fork. Its light and it goes ping when it hits a piece of flint.
A device with a light and a pinger that locates points. That is priceless, and it ranks right up there with gold at the end of the rainbow....Pat is gonna love that!
