D2 Finds 6-28-08
Found these yesterday at the D2 Ranch in Palo Pinto Co.
This first one has some calcium, limestone or some other type of deposit. If I want to take it off how can I do that?
The last point might just be my best ever.

here it is..

Re: D2 Finds 6-28-08
Travis the point looks clean enough so if I were you I wouldn't clean it any more.If points are just completely covered then you can put them in clear vinegar for a few minutes but don't soak them very long.
You want to leave all of the mineral deposits that you can, that is the sure fire way to tell their authenticity.Even though you found them and you know they are real later on in life if you decide to get rid of them the minerals will help sell the point.
All I clean my points with is warm water and a tooth brush.I did find a Zepher last year in the creek that was so crusted over I couldn't even tell what color or what kind of point it was so I cleaned it with vinegar.

Travis, Enjoyed digging with you on Saturday. You really stole the show. I think that last one you found is a Bonham point. I've got one that I found several years ago at Post,TX. that looks like its twin. Get with me sometime and we'll try it again.

Is that a screen dig? How much did they charge you? Palo Pinto is pretty close to me.

Re: D2 Finds 6-28-08
Good show Travis. How did you make out on broken ones ? or does that site only have completes ?
Now closed for heat, maybe close for deer season, You northern diggers need some other places. You mentioned that D2 is on the Brasos river. What about surface/creek walking expeditions? At least below Waco that river is a real treasure trove for fossils.
Not just clam shells but bits and pieces of sloth, camel, mamouth etc.
If you happen to get into overlapping flint N fossils, look for info from the Dallas paleontological club...They are fanatics on all the shark and rays teeth just NE of Dallas [ might be on the Sulfer river system ]

Re: D2 Finds 6-28-08
Hal, just 1 broken tip is all I found. Most all intact. Wanting to try and start looking in creek beds and on Brazos River gravel bars. I think those folks up North that can't legally dig find there's that way.

Re: D2 Finds 6-28-08
Travis, After your last words I went googling looking for that Dallas fossil club. They are there but I didn't see an actual website, just a phone # 817 355 4693. While looking it occured to me that they and other clubs have favorite looking sites that are land owner approved. Most clubs invite guests without having to be a full member [ at least for a while ].
Pick their brains to get going on creekin ! By no means am I infering you aquire an interest in fossils.
If you go out with them, say on the Sulfur R and you spot a 5 inch Megladon tooth You dont HAVE to pick it up. Later you might find some flint shaped like a clovis.
Lastly, what a coincidence, Just yesterday the NEW YORK TIMES ran an article under SCIENCE that says the scientists have just found a section of the Brazos river that included with the shark tooth level a high level of Iridium that correlates exactly with the date of "the big one" [Dino wipeout meteor]

Re: D2 Finds 6-28-08
Thanks Hal. I will definately check it out. I recently found some fossilized sand dollars and sea shells on top of a mound out here. Pretty interesting stuff. The mound must have been a high shelf at one time in the sea.
