Good morning! We need more people and groups willing to help!
This is why we posted to your group, to ask for your help with our project.
About J I have been a friend of his since 1971 we were in Nam together.
J was stationed at Nha Trang with the 5th group 82nd airborne
2 tours from 69-72 he was a French-Vietnamese interpreter he
traveled from firebase to firebase all over the country! He
is also disabled vet having been wounded 3 time in battle.
They replaced his right knee in 72 he also suffers from
depression and PT-SD. He was riding home from work late
evening in August 2000 when a semi truck driver fell a sleep
at the wheel and ran him off a bridge. He fell about 25 feet
to the rocks below, the fall was so great his 1999 Harley
softail broke into 2 pieces. J suffered a 8 broken bones,
a ruptured spline and hearing damage. He has had 10 operations
since then and has to wear leg braces and use forearm crutch's
to walk.
He lost his job and now is unable to work, he filed bankruptcy
in 2002. J has beena bike rider for over 30 years and myself
and some friends have been working ourbutts off to get him
back on the road again. As this would make his life more enjoyable.
We acquired a Voyager kit (Kit to make a bike into a trike) and
now we are going at raising the money to buy him a "good" used
motorcycle to go with it. It has been hard as people don't understand
what he has gone through and how much this will make his life complete
again.
J has always helped out other veterans, just last year he
got a local radio station to put together 3 boxes of Cd's,
T-shirts,and other goodies to send to a group stationed at
Baghdad airport. He also got a group of people to send 28
packages of underwear and t-shirts to a military hospital in
Germany for wounded troops. He is at home all day so this is
what he likes to do to keep busy. I and some of his other
friends are trying to buy him a 02-03 VTX 1300, VT 1100
or 97-04 Kawasaki VN800 Vulcan motorcycle.
We have setup this website to get the word out about
his plight in hopes of raising enough money to buy a
used VT, VTX or Vulcan for him. We have acquired
a used Voyager kit for a 1988 thru 1991 Goldwing and we
found out it can be modified to fix a 02-03 VTX 1300,VT 1100 or
a 92-04 Kawasaki VN800 motorcycle. This will enable him to
have three wheels and make the bike stable enough for him
to ride again! Since we started the project we have never seen him more
excited. If you want to donate that's great,
if not thats ok also, but please help us pass the word around our project!
If you have any more questions please let me know?
Bye for now and God bless, Don Martin |
