I'm new

Hey everyone!! I'm 21 and have been fighting anorexia for about 6 years. My boyfriend is getting me back on track. I love him to pieces but sometimes he just doesn't understand how hard this is (don't get me wrong he is trying). I would love to be able to talk to someone who is going through the recovery phase right now. I am very early in recovery, just started therapy but I would love to hear some inspirational stories of people who have recovered. Sometimes I feel that I'm never going to be normal.... this has been going on for so long, I'm not exactly sure what that even means. Anyways, sorry if I'm rambling, but I would love to talk with someone through email or AIM. thanks and good luck to everyone!!! STAY POSITIVE!!!

Dear Alexa,

Thank you for your message and welcome to the forum! :-)

That's wonderful to hear that your boyfriend is supporting you in your recovery. It's so important to have people in your life who are there for you, help, comfort and support you.

You mentioned your boyfriend is trying but has a hard time understanding what exactly you are going through.
It's difficult for someone who never had an eating disorder to truly understand what it's like. They want to help but don't really know how - what are the right things to do and say and what are the dont's. It would be great when you can tell your boyfriend, how he can best support you... what things to do or say and what not to do or say.

Have you ever looked into joining a support group in your area--that would be a great place to meet people who are going through the same what you are. Support groups can be very powerful in someone's recovery journey.

I wish you all the best and much patience and strength. Learn to believe in yourself and don't give up. I want you to know and always remember that recovery IS possible, also for YOU!

Andrea
