New Bravenet Guestbook (beta)

Hey Guys!

We have just launched our new BETA Guestbook!

Everyone can try it out by logging into their Bravenet account and going to their Guestbook Manager.

The first option you will see is 'NEW Embeddable Guestbook - BETA'.

Our new Guestbook embeds right on your website and features a cool new editor.

I urge you all to try it out! It is really neat, I have been playing with it all afternoon. Just remember it is in BETA - that means we are still working on, but if you see something that you think isn't working like it should than feel free to post it here.

Be sure to let us know what you think!

Re: New Bravenet Guestbook (beta)

Courtnie -

It's not clear to me what you mean by 'Embeddable'. Is my OLD Guestbook 'Non-beddable'?

I think of 'embeddable' as receiving your code to load on my server within my pages, as opposed to placing a simple link to your code on your site in one of my pages.

I was not willing to do anything but look at your /guestbook/v2/ page, for fear of not being able to back out to my prior state.

I'd also like to suggest that where you say "Let us know what you think!" on the OLD /guestbook/page you place a link to this particular forum.

Re: New Bravenet Guestbook (beta)

Hey Pat!

An embeddable guestbook means you can take the guestbook code and put it on any page you like - this means that you guestbook no longer has to have the bravenet url. So you can copy and paste the code onto a page similar to our horoscope service (or other copy and paste services).

If you don't like the new one - you can go back to the old.

I should just add that you don't have to embedded the new one, you can still use the new one and host it on Bravenet :)

Re: New Bravenet Guestbook (beta)

Courtnie,

I've been playing with the new beta version and took the cut & paste coding to place a my website. I pulled up the page and it's good. However, the links that go to next page... back... etc.. don't appear to be working. Also is it possible to manage the new visitors messages from my website? If so please advise as to either problem. Thanks and May God Bless..

Hi, I have just been looking at the new version and would like to use it on my site. However although I am able to make changes using the editor I am unable to save them. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: New Bravenet Guestbook (beta)

I am hoping this is the right place to post this, sorry if it's not..

I just put the guestbook on my wiki, and i can see it fine... I am using Firefox 2 and i have AdBlock on. My friend said she can't see it, so i turned AdBlock off and it disappears.. My friend is using IE. And apparently it just came up and went again. :s

I don't understand why it's not coming up with AdBlock off, or for her.

Here is the page which the guestbook is on. It should be right at the top, above the line break http://thesimscentral.pbwiki.com/Guestbook-and-FAQ

Thanks

Re: New Bravenet Guestbook (beta)

Sunny -
Can you provide me with a link to your guestbook?

Dave Simmons -
There is currently an issue with saving in Internet Explorer 6 - we have someone fixing the problem now :)

Sheepy-Pie -
It looks to me like the system you are using to create your website is stripping out the JavaScript code you pasted in it. Are you able to contact the company to find out how to inject JavaScript?

Re: New Bravenet Guestbook (beta)

Well from what i have read they are trying to get JavaScript in PBwiki 2.0 which i am guessing means that there isnt any for the one i'm using.

So if that is true, i'm going to have to make do with it appearing and disappearing whenever.. But it is for security reasons, so it's not so bad.

Thanks for your help :) if you know a workaround i'd love to know >< I'm using pbwiki, otherwise i'll wait til 2.0 is properly release!

Thanks

Thanks for all your feedback during the testing phase!

Re: New Bravenet Guestbook (beta)

I am having a problem with the embeddable guestbook. I copied the code, which was very short, and pasted it into the html of the appropriate page of my website - but nothing appears. I have tried it using both IE6 and Firefox. My webpage is through Googlepages. The code for the old guestbook works fine and still provides the links, but the new one just won't work! help!

Re: New Bravenet Guestbook (beta)

Hi guys,

The new Beta version is great and I find it really easy to use. The only problem I have (not sure if this is the place for help though) is I run a web site for an actor and he's unable to log into and post in the guestbook since I changed a couple of things in the beta version. He's definately not on the banned IP list and I can't think of any other way to help him. I did get him to try and post by going through Bravenet's web site (entering username and password) and he couldn't even post that way. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Lee

Re: New Bravenet Guestbook (beta)

Hi Courtnie,

I have just migrated my son's guestbook to the new beta version here .

However, we had a problem in that when we click "post", the new page that pops up does not allow us to set the background color. Because the text color is light, our users cannot read the page properly on a default white background.

FYIa pls. Thanks!

Re: New Bravenet Guestbook (beta)

Patrick -

The post popup using your page background as the background color.

Guestbook Title Style color as the title color.

And Subtitle Style color as the main text color.

The text colors can be changed by clicking 'edit title' and the background color by clicking 'edit page' - this will change the colors for your whole guestbook.

Re: New Bravenet Guestbook (beta)

Hi,

I'm sitting in Sweden and since I embedded the 'new' guestbook the 'Swedish letters' Å, Ä and Ö (that is As and O with dots above them) turns into stupid weird signs instead of actual letters! This is not looking good at all and makes the guestbook very hard to read and understand. I've mailed support about this but not got an answer. Can please any one here help??!!

Thanks!

Re: New Bravenet Guestbook (beta)

I just upgraded to the embeddable guestbook but the navigation buttons aren't working. I can't post or click the next or last buttons. Also, the home button doesn't show up on my page but it shows up in the Editor.

Here's the link to my guestbook which is embedded on my website

Please help because I'd really like to have my readers use it again.

Re: New Bravenet Guestbook (beta)

Please disregard my previous message. I figured out that my AdBlock feature in my Firefox browser was causing the problem. I disabled it and now the navigation buttons work.

The guestbook appears and seems to function correctly, but for some reason, it looks wrong -- everything is outlined in dotted blue lines and I can't figure out why. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: New Bravenet Guestbook (beta)

I've tried to install the new guest book but keep getting this message.
"Current only one Bravenet App is allowed per page. Please remove the extra script code from this page.
If you are unable to resolve your problem, please contact our support center."
I have removed the old guestbook. But I have a bravenet counter on this page. The old Guestbook was on the same page, so why can't the new one appear as well? Very odd.

Re: New Bravenet Guestbook (beta)

This a purty darn confusing place to get around in. I went to try out the Guestbook and within 10 minutes I got an email thanking me for registering (I didn't know I'd registered anything) with a URL for it. When I went there sure enough it had my humble beginnings of a guestbook. Embed, not embedded, has me lost.

Anyways, while I was in there I thought it would be nice to have a background image but it says I have to already have images uploaded to the Bravenet Photo Center. What is that? I couldn't find it anywhere so I looked it up on Google. It brought me to a page that said I had two pictures. Two pictures I've never even seen before. 2 small graphics. I tried to add a picture and it said I didn't have any room for any more pictures. Is 'center' and 'album' the same thing? Actually I hardly have a clue what Bravenet is. What IS it? Where AM I?

Re: New Bravenet Guestbook (beta)

I managed to get a photo uploaded into My Pictures but now it says:

You do not have any websites created under this account.

If you want to use the MyPictures feature, you need to create at least one website.

I already have a website. I don't want to make another website, I just want to make a guestbook and use it with the website I already have. Is there a way in this hazy maze to do that?

Help?

ISSUES WITH PHOTOS ON GUESTBOOK
---

I'm currently on a free membership but am soon updating to a paid one once I know this guestbook has the functionality I want. I'm doing a retirement farewell guestbook and can't seem to find the capability to have guests post pictures, but it said on the main page that guestbook signers can add a photo to their post. This is great to have people add a photo of them with our retiree. Does this only become an option once you become a paying member and if so, how easy is it for people to add a photo? Let me know, thanks so much everyone!

Re: New Bravenet Guestbook (beta)

Would like to know why I can't access any pages other than the last (newest) page of my Guest Book. (The "First" and "Prev" buttons don't work. At all. Nada.) I'd like to pull all of the entries off so I can get rid of this Guest Book. It was great until it became 'new and improved' and I was able to 'embed' it on my site. Which, btw, was the most confusing mess I've ever encountered.

Is there any way to get to these 'lost' Guest Book comments, or are they truly lost forever?

Since I embedded my Guest Book, it takes much longer to load and one visitor said she can't get to it at all. I am puzzled.
