I can log on to the forum but others can't
I have a Forum on my website at http://pub2.bravenet.com/forum/154144579 Last week I had a first complaint from a man on an Australian ISP that he couldn't log on to the Forum. He is less computer savvy than me, which is saying something, and eventually got someone to sort it out. He thinks that it was something to do with his Virus settings. Now today I have another complaint - this time from a man with a hotmail e-mail address. I've suggested he checks his Spam/Virus settings, but is there anything I can do from my end? Please keep any advice or help simple. Many thanks in adv ance |

you don't NEED to be logged into the forums you can just post now if you have something blocking people in your settings for the forum then you would have to change that otherwise there is NOTHING you can do. People are probably having issues with bravenet because of software they have on their computers like ad blockers, virus software and more So all you can do is what you have recently done. |

Thank you for that - I clearly used the wrong term when I referred to logging on - I meant to say posting. I thought it would be their protection, not anything I've done, but it is nice to have that confirmed. Thank you again. |

We really need to know exactly what the problem is. Assuming that the failure is at the point of hitting the "post" button then there are three major possibilities: 1. They are ignoring the image verification box. 2. Their firewall or ad blocking software is blocking the image verification box 3. They are using a browser that doesn't recognize images. They may have a very slow connection and have disabled images in their browser or they may be visually impaired and are using screen reading software which does not recognise image verification. |

No, they don't get that far. They cannot get onto the Forum when they click the Links on my site or in my e-mails. I have checked the Links, which work for me, and there is a fair bit of traffic on rhe Forum, so clearly other people are getting in. |

Email: many webmail services will disable links in messages (this will be the case with your Hotmail customer). Normally you have to explicitly set the service to permit links from named senders. I don't know if it still happens but Yahoo used to corrupt any links in messages. Firewalls may do the same to email clients. Access from work: people browsing at work may be blocked by their company's firewall. There are so many variables but from your description the problems are likely to be related to security software. |

I posted a test message. So I think you can assume the problem is at their end. |

Thanks Corwings - and others. I saw your post, Corwings (when I woke up this morning) but this is what my complainant has to say - I suggested he contact his ISP HelpDesk: "I called my ISP today and they did a diagnostic of pub2.bravenet.com. They said it was rejecting my (and their!) attempts to connect. I really want to read some of the discussions there, particularly on rising PSA post RRP. Can you please see what you can do with the bravenet folks to see why the web site is not responding. I'm in upstate New York using RoadRunner ISP. The national RoadRunner Help Desk wasn't able to connect to the site either. This all happened around 9am East Coast US time." |

Servers do go down but if there is a consistent problem it is a matter for a support ticket. When considering time of day do remember that Bravenet is on the west coast not the east. |
