The Yankees pitcher Karstens got hit by a line drive on the first pitch of the game. He was shaken up, but stayed in to give up another hit before being yanked in favor of Kei Igawa as a precautionary move.

Re: Turbo Tanking or Not?
I tend to agree, although I added it to the list anyway. I think it compares to the short game no-hitters - it doesn't match up in spirit, but at the same time it does technically meet the rule.
Also, if we count Karstens, then we would have to count the Babe Ruth ejection-perfect game.

I'd think a broken leg would exempt him.

So why is Felix Hernandez on the list?

Re: Turbo Tanking or Not?
Is there a time limit to these? Is June 5 to late in the year to have a turbo tanking or is that any time during the year?
No, Felix Hernandez was not Turbo Tanked. He is on the list because he came out in the first. What I need to do is add an asterisk, indicating that he came out, but it was due to injury. That is the case for a couple of those guys.
I may also add the Babe Ruth-ejection-perfect game, with an asterisk that Ruth wasn't Turbo Tanked but ejected.
And, a Turbo Tanking is a Turbo Tanking regardless of time of year. There are some World Series Turbo Tankings on the list.

This is fantastic! I can't wait until someone on Sportcenter totally rips us off and the term Turbo Tanking becomes part of everyday baseball lingo.

Re: Turbo Tanking or Not?
Awesome! I am working on compiling these presently.
It's interesting to note that outside of Jim Perry's quartet of 1973 Turbo Tankings, he had a 3.33 ERA and 123 ERA+ that year.

Re: Turbo Tanking or Not?
Done! It's hard to believe, but the Royals offense is now responsible for 12/108 Turbo Tankings (11.1%). They should be around 3.8% if you consider an average of 26 teams in the majors during their existence. There must be something to this, Davies.
