SMOKING IN UNITS

Quote from Trip Advisor on web:
"It's hard to decide which side of the fence to jump off of with regard to this hotel. It has a gorgeous location, and theoretically it should be ideal for a peaceful get away. However, even though you may be located in a building designated as non-smoking, I learned the hard way that smoking is still permitted on the screened porches. I was sitting at the kitchen table one evening enjoying the breeze from the porch when cigarette smoke started filling the living room. It was from the unit below me and a smoker on the porch below. This went on every day of my stay. When I phoned the front desk, they informed me that smoking is permitted on the balconies/porches and there is nothing they can do about it. I will return to Sanibel but will probably look for different place to stay next time. If it weren't for the smoke, however, I would probably stay here again."

Please let us hear from you! I am sure it is a problem
for many owners that smoking is still permitted in our units, the caged balcony should be considered part
of the units, as they are right next to another owner
that does not like the tobacco smoke?

Of course our rights as owners can stop the smoking in
our units!

Re: SMOKING IN UNITS

I am at casa ybel this week, unit 184. There's a flyer given out at check-in now that says in accordance with the Florida clean air act, we request that your accommodations, including the screened lanai, remain smoke free. There's also a sign posted above the AC controls that says a $300 cleaning fee will be imposed if smoking occurs in the unit, including the screened lanai. So good news on the smoke-free front!

Re: SMOKING IN UNITS

I would like to know how the decision was made to not allow smoking on the porch. As an owner for 12 years (and coming here since I was 9), I do not remember voting on this issue. I do not smoke, but my husband does like to enjoy a cigar on the porch. I understand that some of you do not want to smell the smoke, but if he can sit on the steps right outside the porch, what's the difference? Smoke is still going to rise. Unfortunately for my husband, he has to deal with the bugs or the uncomfortableness of sitting on the stairs or standing. I agree with not smoking in the unit, but not to smoke on the screened porch is taking it too far. I think this issue should be revisited or at least there should be a vote of ALL owners. Thank you for taking this into consideration for an owner's vote.

Re: SMOKING IN UNITS

I agree with Jennifer. I am not a smoker, but my wife is. I hate smoke inside any hotel room or timeshare unit, but don't mind if my wife sits on the balcony to smoke. It usually works as a happy compromise, and she will shut the balcony door to stop it going inside.

I would also like to know who approved the smoking ban on the balconies, because I have not heard of this before, and would like to see it reversed.

Re: SMOKING IN UNITS

There is no reason why a smoker cannot walk away from the condos to have a cigarette. Having a cigarette on the lanai is not acceptable, not any more. I have small grandchildren vacationing with me every year and we are on our lanai often.

Re: SMOKING IN UNITS

Wasn\'t planning on smoking on your lanai Lois, so stay out of my business. By law, I have every right to smoke on the lanai and although the units are \"smoke free\" there is nothing anyone can do to stop me from smoking inside either. I will also be smoking around the pool.

Re: SMOKING IN UNITS

I still would like to know who authorized this new rule. When I purchased my unit 12 years ago, you could smoke inside the unit. Like I said earlier, I'm fine with not smoking inside the unit, but it's ridiculous that my husband can't smoke a cigar on the patio. There needs to be a new vote by ALL the owners. I know there are many owners in my week that feel the same way. Thank you!
