I don't fish when I am in FL, but I have been at Casa Ybel every year since 1980 from mid April to the 1st week in May and have walked the beach in early morning 90% of the days we have been there. People seem to mostly catch "hardhead catfish". sometimes snag stingrays and I think occassionaly they get a sea trout. I would suggest that you contact one of the local fishing guides and ask them abot technique and bait.

We spend the first week of May at another resort on Sanibel and know a family that fish every day on the surf with results. If you will contact me at my e-mail address, I will fill you in on the details.
