Status of Thefts at Casa yBel?

Has this issue been resolved?

Re: Status of Thefts at Casa yBel?

It looks like things have quieted down, just remember one thing:
Lock your front door, and also odd numbered units with direct access
from screen porch to beach- Lock your screen door and one leaves through front door. At least one person in the party can save the unit for all.
Things are changing in our lives. However Sanibel is more popular than
other SW Florida areas. Spring Break was fantastic! Mile long traffic jam heading to the toll booths.
The menu at Cocoanuts was excellent! They are trying hard! and the hot 88's
are on all week! The Pelicans are returning to the trees, and are they
decorating the trees!

I read the Island Reporter every week, and have not seen nor read any further news on the subject. There was an article about car thefts at the east end of Sanibel a couple weeks ago. All of the thefts involved unlocked cars, some even with open windows. The message is analogous to our theft issue; lock up!

Re: Status of Thefts at Casa yBel?

A lot of (motorcycle) bikers around the islands lately. I don't want to be too presumptive, but they don't look like they belong here and only noticed this in the last 6 months or so. Wonder if there's any correlation.

P.S. Let's not start another flame war. There's already enough heat on these forums to power the furnace of a cargo ship.

Re: Status of Thefts at Casa yBel?

I just drove some distances from Orlando to Everglades with Spring Breakers
everywhere. (and spring breaker grandkids in tow)
Also Motorcycle formations, which to me is usual this time of the year
with clubs riding thousands of miles to reach sunny Florida.
Key West was really heavy, and talking to them in parking lots I was very
impressed with their "cycle toys", friends, and attitudes.
They were not cheap cycles, and I was very impressed with what they could tell you about their sport.
I feel they most be more exposed than anyone else on the road.
They can't lock up their vehicles, and must keep a sharp eye around them.
They have real valuables around them, we could learn from them.

They are absolutely not the type that would go through your beach door and steel your exposed billfolds. They have everything and enjoy it!

I would blame a walking tramp with no money and education, staying warm in
Florida's sunshine. Not wishing for a job!

Those bikers are impressive! They have guts.
