Who had a better year?

Pitcher A:
8-14 3.76 217.7 IP 206 H 4 UER 19 HR 91 BB 186 K

Pitcher B:
9-12 5.01 158.0 IP 154 H 2 UER 14 HR 72 BB 157 K

Re: Who had a better year?

This is a won-loss record quiz, right?

I'll say Pitcher A.

Re: Who had a better year?

More of an ERA/FIP quiz. I would say Pitcher A was superior because he threw more innings, but that the pitchers were equals on a per-inning basis.

Re: Who had a better year?

Pretty even, with a slight edge to Pitcher A. Who are they?

Re: Who had a better year?

I'll let Rich answer.

Re: Who had a better year?

Okay, with that clue, I got that one of them was Cain.

But boy-oh-boy did Sanchez's stock drop over the season! He must have sucked in the second half.

Re: Who had a better year?

Pitcher A was far more consistent all year long while Pitcher B had some very good moments and showed flashes of potential but was on the whole, inconsistent.

I would like to have seen more improvement this year out of Pitcher A but given that he's still only 24 (while Pitcher B was 25), I'd say he's done pretty well considering his team can't score a damn run for him.

Oh, and by the way Keith, you shorted Pitcher B, Jonathan Sanchez, 3 walks. He walked 75 not 72.

But the difinitive answer to the question is Pitcher A, Matt Cain had the better year.

(I would have answered this sooner but I can no longer post at work. The damn letters at the bottom don't show up)

Re: Who had a better year?

Basically Asher, yes he did. But he also threw a professional career high in innings and basically ran out of gas. A strained shoulder didn't help either.

He'll only get better.

Re: Who had a better year?

Actually, Sanchez is a leading candidate for the Redman Award, isn't he?

Re: Who had a better year?

~sigh~

I suppose he is.
