Mercury in Fish

On NPR I heard about a book: Diagnosis Mercury by Jane Hightower MD. I haven't read it yet, but apparently it is pretty disturbing about the levels of mercury in our lives. In researching the book on the web, I came across this interesting article on Truthdig about the book: http://www.truthdig.com/arts_culture/page3/20081128_richard_ellis_on_diagnosis_mercury/

It's a review of the book by Richard Ellis who loves bluefin tuna, but after reading this book won't be eating any more of it.

Unrelated to the book, I also came across a program for calculating how much tuna you can safely eat each week, based on your weight at Environmental Working Group: http://www.ewg.org/tunacalculator. This calculator program is from 2004, so it may be overly generous.

I just thought I'd share this info because we are, on one hand, constantly being told to consume more fish because it's healthy and, on the other hand, constantly being warned about the dangers of mercury.

Maybe this book could be the next book for book group??
