Re: Eczema Treatment Help

Hi A1 and all GreenMoms,
I had been battling eczema with my now 3 yr old daughter from when she was 14 months old. Most of the remedies are very temporary. It's a long story for me. What ended up working within 3 days, was giving her Omega 3 fish oil. These pills have 1000 mg; the gummies have 273 mg. I take the soft gel pill, pierce it with a knife, squeeze the oil into a cup and then add some type of juice. She understands it is "itchy" medicine and drinks it. Personally I think it's yucky but daughter-K is a good patient. You could try sneaking it into a smoothie maybe. The gummies are more like a candy so there's no problem getting them to eat that, unless they aren't eating yet.

One thing that is important to note; we did have her allergy tested for food and environmental so we knew it wasn't that. One doctor thought she had food sensitivites; that didn't work 100% though.

I've tried every other remedy for her skin, clothes, bath, etc, etc. This has been the only thing that has worked. Here's a little blurb about it:

Eczema or excema, known as dermatitis in the medical dictionary, is a skin condition in which it becomes red with little cracks and spots. People usually use creams and other medication to treat this illness. However, this provides only temporary solution and the irritation returns after a few days. Recent studies in the field of eczema treatment have revealed that eating fish or fish oil capsules can prevent eczema and other skin-related problems.

This is because fish oil is rich in omega 3 fatty acids – DHA and EPA – which are not only beneficial for proper functioning of nervous system and immune system, but are also helpful in the prevention of various skin-related diseases like acne, formation of red spots, wrinkles and eczema. Therefore, the role of omega 3 fish oil in eczema treatment is significant and noteworthy.

It's been a long journey but daughter-K's skin is finally under control. Good luck!

Hello A1 and all,

I just checked with my Chinese medicine practitioner (acupuncture and
herbs), and she says Chinese medicine can indeed help with eczema.
It's mostly the herbs, but acupuncture can help a bit, too.

If you'd like to contact her for more information:

A couple more suggestions, from a new member – I get mild eczema on my fingers and hands, which flares up immediately if I wash dishes or do similar chores without wearing gloves. So try cutting back on the baths if you haven’t already, and keep the bath temperature on the warm versus the hot side if possible. I often just give my daughter a quick spray over with the removable shower head on non-bath days before she goes to bed. (This also saves lots of time, water, and heating energy!). And I suppose you already know that using very mild soap can help. When it gets really bad, I use a prescription ointment from the doctor which gets it back under control.

An acupuncturist I went to a long time ago for an unrelated problem suggested as an aid for eczema cutting out acidic foods like coffee and tomatoes, but I couldn’t do it since I love them too much (especially tomatoes)!

Going to Hawaii also helps, with all that warm humidity in the air ;).

Re: Eczema Treatment Help

I just wanted to thank you all for your suggestions and recommendations. I will definitely apply them.
