TELFORD, PA-August 21, 2003 — Several people suffered injuries and there is at least 1 fatality this morning in an industrial accident in Montgomery County.
As electricity coursed through the rig, the two men who rushed to the driver's aid were shocked, killing them instantly, authorities said.
"They saw the crane operator fall out of the cab, and the two were trying to get him out of there," said John Dougherty, director of emergency services for Bucks County.
Other rescuers then kept their distance until the live wire was turned off, Dougherty said.
The accident, which happened at about 9:15 a.m. at the JDM Materials plant in Telford in suburban Philadelphia, left the crane a smoking ruin. PPL spokesman George Lewis said the power line was a standard 7,200 volt distribution line.
The three men killed were Forepaugh, his 41-year-old nephew George Frederick and an unidentified third man hired for the day.
