Marti Pellow takes on Che role in Evita musical

Former Wet Wet Wet frontman, Marti Pellow, is set to play one of musical theatre’s most coveted roles in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s show Evita, which goes to Milton Keynes Theatre next week.

Marti will play Che in the musical, which tells the story of Eva, the wife of former Argentine dictator, Juan Peron.

Evita follows Eva’s journey from humble beginnings through to extraordinary wealth, power and iconic status, which ultimately led her to be heralded as the spiritual leader of the nation by many Argentine people.

With more than 20 major awards to its credit – including an Oscar for the film version, which starred Madonna – Evita features some of the most memorable songs in musical theatre, including Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, On This Night of a Thousand Stars and Another Suitcase in Another Hall.

Marti Pellow’s character, Che, is said to reflect the voice of the Argentine people.

As a solo singer and recording artist with Wet Wet Wet, Marti has achieved major chart success, with more than 25 hits and three of the UK’s biggest number one singles, including the chart-topping, Love Is All Around.

His West End and other musical theatre appearances include The Witches of Eastwick, Chess, Jekyll & Hyde, Chicago and Blood Brothers.

He joins the cast of Evita fresh from a solo tour to launch his new solo album, Hope, which was released in March. The show will run from Monday, May 20 until Saturday, June 1, nightly at 7.30pm.
