Well now, looks like a cannon ball, about a two pounder. But then again, for many years I had six 2 1/2 pound cast irons balls that were found on a construction site near the San Jacinto Battlefield. The 2 1/2 pound size presented the big question of origin. The Mexican cannons at the battle were three pounders and the two Texas cannons were four pounders. Last year I sent two of the balls to an artillery ordinance expert in Calgary. My cannon balls were ball-bearings from a big turn of the century rock crusher.
Hi Donny, nice pics again...Would you peg that point as a NEWNAN ?? If so, the type was in use for a very long time with minimum change, certainly no yearly model change. What do you make of that other piece? Good show
Hi again Donny, I thought the pic indicated the base was snapped off sharp [ in antiquity ] mentally extending it out might match closer to the book examples.
Whats your read on the globe? Doesn't look very rusted for being in a wet sand/soil environment. Was it at the same level as original camp artifacts?
