Decided to go to Floyd's today since I've never been. I have to agree with everything I read about the conditions of the place, as it's definetely been dug for 30 some years. My goal was to dig beneath the throw and in the tree roots, but the throw must have been 5' deep near the center of the midden and around some of the trees, so I just gave up and moved on to other spots. Near the back of the camp, the digging reminded me a lot of Chrisner's, lots of bedrock type material to move and hardly any flint or snail. Found a broken piece of a blade, but nothing else. After digging in South Austin and on the Frio River for so long, I can definitely say that digging and midden conditions seem to change as you move north.
Can anyone out there give me the scoop on Longs in Kingsland? Doesn't seem anyone on this board has talked about it in some time.
Eric, Floyds is still producing a bit, it is just hard to find a good spot to dig in, just about everywhere you sink a wiggle pick someones candy wrappers or beer cans show up, but everynow and then a point will pop out. When i go to Floyds i usually have better luck surface hunting then digging but the past few weeks i have been finding stuff people missed.
