Interesting stuff from this weekend

Here are a few pics from North Texas on a creek I took on Friday.

Here's a view from the top of an Indian campsite

Here are some grinding stones on top of the campsite

Here's a little busted perdiz.

There's an engraving on this rock. It looks like half "k". Any ideas? Indian? Settlers?

Re: Interesting stuff from this weekend

Travis, Cool pics! Is the area rock mostly sandstone, or a sandstone and limestone mix? Great matate too, have you found any mono's near by? I would venture (speculation) to say that the half K was started and not finished by settlers. It certainly does appear to have some age on it though. Neat! Does it look like there is anything to dig in the way of a midden? Hope so. If you find any rock shelters along any of the creeks around there, take note if they have any petroglyphs (drawings). I'd say your of to a good start in that area. Good Hunting!

Re: Interesting stuff from this weekend

Thanks Mike. The campsite is right next to a house. I"m sure that I could get permission to dig there. That campsite has had alot of traffic on it. The owners said they've never found any points. I don't think they've ever really looked hard. Anyways it's a neat place. I wish it was real secluded where no one really knew about it. But is was fun anyways. I wil prob. go back. Thanks

Re: Interesting stuff from this weekend

Hi Travis, Re that special K. Whatever it is cant be very old, that overall location pic shows the extreme differences in weathering where not enough time has elapsed to blend into the rest of the feature.

It might even have been made by another digger OR...It MIGHT be the start of an ARROW Made by the Spanish treasure map makers...."DIG HERE???"

Re: Interesting stuff from this weekend

Thanks for the reply. I wish it were a treasure map. This place is private prop. so no one has ever dug here. Who knows. I thought it could possible be made from some kid growing up at that house but who knows. Thanks

Re: Interesting stuff from this weekend

Travis, I hope that you'll at least get permission if you can to put in a test hole to see whats there. It could be that since you said there had been alot of traffic over the site that most of the surface finds have been picked up already, but beneath the surface could be a bonanza of stuff just waiting! If it turns out to be a great dig, the owner might appreciate a nice tilled area for a garden later on! At any rate, and to an old digger, it would be hard to walk away from without at least a test hole! Good Luck to you.

Re: Interesting stuff from this weekend

Thanks Mike! I appreciate it.

Re: Interesting stuff from this weekend

Where is that at Travis? Close to Mineral Wells?

Re: Interesting stuff from this weekend

Hey DJ. This place is located about 15 miles east of wichita falls in clay county. Not very far from Oklahoma.
