After work today. Man I neaarly wet myself. I found a spot at the same camp where I found the castroville this weekend that has midden/hearth rock coming out of the wall but no one has dug it. The wall being the drainage ditch/gully at its tallest is about 10' deep. I dug in at the 3 1/2 to 4 ft level this evening and still didn't hit bottom. So much ash and snails you can smell the soot.
Anyhow..here he is... 2 inches long from needle point to ear.
Little ID help is appreciated... I do not yet have an overstreet or field guide
The exact number of mounds I don't think I'll ever be able to determine because the entire top of the field has been scraped into piles with a backhoe; but I have seen at least 4 separate midden areas in this one field that are at least 3 foot in depth. Needless to say I'll be putting as much time as I can in between spring fishing trips digging to see what turns up next.
Very large camp, but no one digging near deep enough. As often as it was used I'm thinking its possible to find some nice paleo if I put in the effort.
Brad, nice find, almost unique but the answer to "what is it?" is litereally right there under our subconcience...
Scroll back up THIS page, check the blue and white BACKROUND,,bout 1 1/2 inches down...3 inches in from the top right corner !! Pretty close. Now if only Pecker can put a name tag on it ! ! !
