Re: What type and period is this?

It's 5" long and 3" wide and has a real smooth biface. Is it a scraper or adze?

Re: What type and period is this?

Hi Gino, when I first saw your pics I assumed there were TWO seperate items. Now I see that bottom is the flip side. All of a sudden it's an unusual hand chopper.

I dont think I have ever seen one so carefully worked only on one side. Maybe the knapper was a one side at time only guy and didn't finish it.

So my bottom line is...."I dont know"

Re: What type and period is this?

Could be a preform or unfinished arrowhead,or knife

Re: What type and period is this?

It's fairly thin, maybe the guy figures he wouldn't be able to knap the other side without breaking it? Anyways, thanks for all the input guys.

Re: What type and period is this?

Was looking at current ebaY auctions and saw something very similar. It's seller called it a "hand knife" from Wilson county. The auction # is 260224835118 if you wanted to check it out. That other one has most of the cortex on one side left on it too.

Re: What type and period is this?

Thanks JC, will check it out.
