About 3 years ago, my dad got a bunch of flint looking rock hauled into to cover the bottom of his driveway. Just recently my 7 yr. old son brought a piece of flint to me from his driveway that looked like it had been worked on. I just shrugged it off and didn't really give it a thought.
I'm not sure where this rock came from but I'm sure it was taken out of a river or creek bottom....my dad has a bunch of it.
Have any of y'all ever found artifacts in material that was hauled in for driveways? Would it be worth my time to look through it good?
Hey Johnny,
When I was in high school I found some black obsedian that had been worked on a train tack. There were also some obsedian points found too. That rock was quarried out from oregon so that's how it ended up in texas. I have found some worked pieces like what you have said from a rock garden. I guess anything is possible.
Here in Northwest Oklahoma they bring truck loads of white flint type rock in to build up around wellheads in the oil field and to build firewalls around tank batteries. I have found some scrapers that have been worked but never any points. That doesn't mean that the wont show up. It is worth a look anyway.
