I have a accuired from a garage sale a tan stone
that looks like a fish hook and looks leke a capital j with the bar on top.It is about 1.5 incheslong. does anyone know the value of this. Also how do I know the age
Howdy Bravo, Your querry re a "hook stone" with no picture, manufacturing marks and found in a garage sale
is worth a responce as it rivals any of the best
riddles ever conjored up by man in recorded history !
In a garage sale means Great grandfather, sea Captain
Ahab could have picked it up anywhere in the world from Fiji to Terra Del Fuego.
It might well be a fossil ! Amonites are usually thought of as those huge perfectly circular ridged
beauties BUT there are varieties that were perfectly
" J " hooked. Admittedly most examples in the books
are large but they had to start small at one time.
Googled, "FLINT FISH HOOK " Lots of listings. One near the top is "CHICHESTER INC "
FISH HOOKS. . . .1.5 to 2.5 INCHES $4.50
So small and with noknowledge of previous travels,
even if it was a nicely made flint item similar to
textbook versions of ancient fish hooks, It could be
a modern made knappers trinket.
