Help

I am new to digging for arrowheads i have a place that i believe could produce them im just not sure where to look i started a dig where there is a good amount of flint that looks to have been brought to this site. I dug about 18 inces deep and the ground was producing shavings till about 6 inches deep should i continue to dig this site or not i dont want to waste time????? I also found some pieces that looked to have been worked and some softball size rocks of flint

Re: Help

Can you post some pictures of the worked pieces?

Re: Help

Yes they are back at the site i will put them up tomorrow

Re: Help

Sandy, CONGRATULATIONS, You have definity won ONE of only TWO possible prizes.
. . . #1. First prize, you found a section of a campsite where flint tools were being manufactured.

. . . #2. Booby prize, Modern day knappers cart their mountains of flint chips, cores and bad preforms
to remote spots and dump them !

Prize will be determined when we see your pics

Re: Help

Diggin can be hard work, 18 inch depth is barely into the producing stratas of some sites. I'd go at least another 18 and see if it looks better than the first, and take note of the soils/ clay matrix, rock content, etc. When I test hole a new or suspect site, I usually stay with it until I have dug down enough to hit an original undisturbed ground, or bedrock. The proofs are in the digging, good or bad. Just know that there has been alot of good artifacts passed over simply because of Not digging deep enough. Best of Luck to you.
