any good finds?
Dug there all day yesterday didn't find a thing. Until he opens up a new producing camp I don't think there will be much found. He said may at digfest he will open up a new small camp.
Let me know how it goes, Steve. Is this part of the field that Richard was selling???
I can't make it, wish I could, but I have the Boerne arrowhead show to go to... Sorry
Who knows where they were screening.. I have my own areas on the older camps that always pan out for us.
Plenty of people digging there for a long time have various places that they like to dig in the old camps.
Hal and I already have our plans layed out for where the pick is going into the ground and the points are waiting for us!
No matter what happens.. Its a "Get Together" .. Party for us all.. To finally meet everyone and have a good time.. Give out prizes and eat some BBQ !!!!
Its worth the trip for us just to visit with all the diggers and take pictures and just finally get to know some people that we have been talking to , some for years!!
I am personally looking forward to the dig and the new faces.. If I leave witha point or two.. well that would just top off the day!
Re: Latest Report from Cristner's Ranch - Not Very Good
For as long as Chrisner's has been open, the conventional wisdom would say,"Oh, it's all played or dug out"....Wrong!!! The creeks and rocky patches still hold treasures, you justhave to look...Like Geo always says, "keep looking down"...When I was there last year, folks told me that the push piles , from the trenches, didn't hold anything, but I found a nice hand axe...actually it fell out and hit me on the head...maybe I should call it a head axe,lol...
When we all meet at Digfest, I'm coming to meet people that I've talked to on the website, look at the samples that they bring with them and have some great bbq...Like Michelle said, if I walk out with a point or twelve than it has been a great day....sorry for the rant.
Re: Latest Report from Cristner's Ranch - Not Very Good
I think the three responces above very nicely cover the three main variables perfectly
1. Hand diggers can try their luck around many of the known dug camps. Sorta like digging in the suburbs of
a small village.
2. Surface hunters always come up with something !
3. Richard had said years ago that he would not promote a screen dig himself
because people expect too much [ if any ]results.
Digfesters will have a big advantage that casual visitors cant match.
Richard is going to trench next to two small camps
only the days before digfest and hold them offlimits to early birds until the main gang arrives.
We will be celebrating a "flint birthday" at digfest and the birthday child's gift wish is for a
Paleo dig site ! Richard said he would move some dirt
near the excavated Paleo camp [ see " SEEKING PALEO DIG " back in the point chatter posting of AUG 26 ]
