Hey Leonard, I have wondered about the obsidian or what looks like obsidian we're finding. Since obsidian is igneous rock from volcanic flow and we live in the part of Texas that has no old volcanoes (that I know of), the best theory I can come up with is that the indians on your place traded with other indians. I think there are some ancient volcanoes in the Big Bend area. Maybe at some point some obsidian found it's way through trade to your place. I have seen alot of obsidian points from the Northwest Washington area. I find it hard to believe that obsidian from those parts made it down to Texas. Woudn't that take generations? But I do feel confident that it is obsidian or something very close to obsidian. Maybe you can take some samples to digfest. I would find it hard to believe if I didn't dig some up myself. And I was very suprised when I did find it on your place. And it's pretty consistent too. I did find some obsidian one time in North Texas by the Red River. But that was on a RR Track where the rock had been mined from the North West. It's interesting though Leonard.

Good info it does open up a whole new world.
The weird waco sinker that I found looks as it is the same material as the texas bedasite. I will burn some of the glassy material and report the results In the next few days.
L, That one writeup describes a microscopic difference btwn Obsidion & Tektites,
any chance for that rather than a burnup
I just checked back on your last posting that presumably shows a dime sized piece of black.
Might be easier to identify if you could come with a larger sample,
say like a G-10 2" PERD
