During the day I dug out some points From Northern Ohio. When I found them I always thought they were just brokes. Until one time I was invite to an artifact collectors club Meeting The Club member seemed kinda shocked to find theese in broken container. To me they looked broken cleaning most of the dirt off of them I was shown The Intentional breaks and where some have been ground. I guess to remove the burrs Or sharp edges. Here is a pic of some of mine Forgot to toss in a coin for context purposes. The largest one is just over 3 Inches And the were foundin a wheat field about 25 years ago.
Wow, Good show L, thats a lot of nice snapped bases.
I think a lot will agree that some snapped points were reknapped to some degree. I have a few that are so well done they look like triangles but obviously not in the classic design.
In looking your points over, asside from some trimming, I wonder if many of the points we say are " heavily resharpened " might actually be snapped's with a complete new base !
Nice collection. [ Do they have Manos & bird points in Ohio land ? ]
Lenny, how right can you be !
I was driftling through the money book covering Ohio [ EAST CENTRAL ] looking for the Perd you posted in another frame. . .
I came across the KIRK SNAPPED BASES. Wow, there they are, same design as your above posting. No doubt about it, the rascals took a G-10 and turned it into a G-1/2
