still searching for the best place to dig

went into my back pasture again today and finally found whats looks to be an old dryed up spring bed.im still finding lots of worked flint and some broken points.but its still to hard to find the best spot to even test dig because of all the cedar.can anyone help with some info please?

Re: still searching for the best place to dig

you just need to pick a spot and start diggin bring a small folding saw or what ever you can handle.just start digging cutt out the roots If you still find flint down below keep going until it stop coming out then pick a direction and keep going you need to find the spots to dig out in the feld you cant find it pecking a key board unless you a fancy machine that can pick up the www. out in your pasture. I forgot if you dont find any flint bones charcoal in your hole move on and start over

Re: still searching for the best place to dig

I live closeby, email me if you would like me to stop by and give an opinion. It still might take a few test holes to find the camp.

Re: still searching for the best place to dig

thats easy to say Leonard. My pasture is 400 acres.thats alot of places to dig.guess ill start near the old dryed spring.thats where all the dirt is.

Re: still searching for the best place to dig

Ronnie,

I would start very close to the dried up spring. Get back a few yards on the first flat area above the creek bank or any flood level and sink a hole. Look for flint, bone, snail, ash, burned rock. Should be fairly obvious if it is a camp or midden.

Any questions, email johnhaberer@sbcglobal.net
