Just like with anywhere else, it's hit and miss. Some days will be great and some days you won't find a thing. What dates are you taking the family? I'm hoping to head out there next month also.
John, I cant offer anymore than all the great advice offered above but if you followed some family posts the last few months re "family digs". . .
Depending on age, kids have got a very short brutal dirt moving span. . . When that strikes, here's a possibility !
I just drove by the dig on the main road a couple of weeks ago and it seems Douglas and the boys have created a new mountain of throw dirt that should be visible from space !
Surface hunt that mountain very well for ANYTHING the big boys missed, like bones, shells with etchings, Perdiz bird points.
Take the family Garden rake with you, If you have any luck with whats on the surface now, just an easy scrape might uncover a lurker !
Transmission from space !
Just did Google map......There's FRL dig site. These maps are quite old and might show some of the "original" scar left by the 1st private owners scratchings.
Google EARTH shows pretty much the same view from the
2005 index.
Still proves out the concept, , , , If what you see now between that open spot in the trees, if they did a new update TODAY, that mountain surely would be clearly visable !
[ PS: to find, Google LEAKEY TEXAS. Go north, take right turn of main road at the "Y". See airport runway.... Go east {right} to rivers edge ]
