what a weekend

well we hit one ranch this weekend , everyone says hunt river beds , ok so after three miles of that all i had to show for it was three busted atv's lol ever tried pushin three of em with a woman and two kids lmao , up top we didnt find a camp but did find so much worked flint , nothing complete and only one worked bottom piece , but there is a lot more looking to be done , has to be a camp there someplace ,

ok so i wont post these pics , but i would like someone that knows about fossils to email me so i can let you see these pics , seems to be a pelvic and leg and i dont know what the other thing is ,

Re: what a weekend

Jerry, anything found is at least an accomplishment. Least it wasn't a total bust. Long as you had a good time.
Sorry about the atv's.

Re: what a weekend

hey bro , ur right anytime i even find a hilltop where worked flint is all over and i find a base im happy , as far as the fossils , those are cool , but i have seen how people tear someone up on here over pics and thoughts , and im no paleoentologist , what you need to do is invite us down for a good surface hunt , and ya know like i siad were getting ready to book a pay dig , but waiting on someone thats supposed to direct us to the right place , heck u can spend as much in two weekends going surface hunting as you can to just go and do a pay dig , and not have to walk 10 miles and go blind looking at everything that reflects light lol , oh and the atv's , now that was just a bummer , never seen anything like it , one just lost all power from the electrical , one just flat azz died , and the other getting no fuel , all within a hundred yards of each other and 10 min time , talk about a freak deal lol

Re: what a weekend

I'm working on us a surface hunt. We're planning another Nacho trip probably late March or April. Just according to how bad/good we do at the casino. They've taken enough of our money already and I'm ready to get some back. Course I stil gotta pay Uncle Sam, but I'm not to worried about that. Usualy a couple grand. Pocket Change.
I'll email you later and work out a date. Like to see if the son and his fiance can make it down from Dallas.
I used to collect fossils, but ran out of room to store them, so I just collect points. Can't hang bones on the wall..

Re: what a weekend

Good adventure story Jer, [ bad mechanical report ]

Anything you learn on your own is far better than all the words you get on an online forum. Drainages " "eventually" hold any washdowns from past visitors, [ including fossilised animals ! ]. Finds depend on variables like rains, other hunters and just plain old luck.
Your discovery of flint flakes higher up could be the tip of a true camp berg ! Closer scruteny might be in order, that could be a big find !

Good report.

Roughly what county or part of the world were you in / at ?

Re: what a weekend

well the river bed these were in is all red clay , all three were within 100 feet of each other , im not a fossil collector , but hey if they arent fossils i carried three heavy azzed rockes a couple of miles for a rock gardon out back lol ,

sh i think you are right about the camp , this hilltop was looking over a valley with the river running through it ,maybe 200 yards , nothing in the vally except tons upon tons of rocks , but so much flaked flint on top of the hill , and one spot with a lot of shell . just have to figure out which way to look for the camp its self , if you know where lubbuck is , go south east to post , at post back north along the bottom of the caprock , we have only met two ranchers who will let us hunt so far , one ranch was a bust , the second is where i was talking about , i think its going to be a great place , but so many ranches along there , you drive down the road and say . oh yea a camp there and there and there and ther , most wont let people on because of grave sites found on the land though , the cool thing about it is that the base of the blade i found up there is purple , there were lots of diff colors up there , not like cotton fields or new mexico where everything was white or grey .

Re: what a weekend

lmao dc , figures , thats just me always getting myself into something silly,

Re: what a weekend

Don't feel bad. Try hauling in 20lbs. of gold to the assayers office only to be told it was fools gold. I'd already mentally had all the money spent. Felt like a first class moron. Or a piece of quartz at the Arkansas diamond crater. Now that was a four carat diamond ring in the making. Thought I'd struck it rich. That's when I got into rock and fossil collecting. Retired from that, so now I hunt points.

Re: what a weekend

that one looks like a leg

Re: what a weekend

Hey Im looking at you rocks and they look to be lime stone or could even be flint nodules......break one in half and see if it is flint or if its bone it should have some marrow characteristics......I have found thousands of pieces of fossilized bone and teeth ill post so you can get a little idea...That is if I can figure out how to post pictures My post will say fossils
