Finally got ahold of Ronny Petty. He told me about two weeks ago that he owns another truckstop (I think Valero-that's what he owns here). A woman that works there at the truck stop in Segovia inherited some land and is running a paydig north of IH10 in that area. He has someone else managing the truck stop, so he doesn't know the womans name but told me this morning that if anyone is interested just stop in there at the truck stop and they will give you the info. It's too far out of our area to try. But if your living around the Junction area you might try it out. Don't know what she charges or anything, but might be a new dig to try if anyone is close. Sorry, but that's all I know about it.
Ronny is on the wifes board of directors and she was telling him about our mudfest at Nacho's, that's when he told us about the dig.
And no, it's not another free dig on the Sabinal River. Mr. Petty is a highly respected rancher and businessman here. He has nothing to gain from this.
So if somebody in that area can check it out, it would be great, the wider the area with paydigs, the closer it would be for somebody. Wish we had one closer then Campwood or Pipecreek. I do enough deer dodging at 7am for work, don't like doing it at 5am to hunt points.
No, sorry I don't. Ronny just said to go to the truck stop and ask the employees. He said everyone there knows about this dig. Guess it's a local knowledge thing. Didn't have a name or number.
I would think it would be Junction, but Ronny said Segovia. Looked Segovia up on the internet atnd it has a pop. of like 25. Ronny has the new Valero truck stop on IH35 in Pearsall, and the Goodyear dealership here to. And he had a Goodyear dealership in Pleasanton. Plus the truck stop at Segovia/Junction. All I can say is if ya'll are out in that area, you might check it out. If you find anything out, this woman may want to advertise on this site. It's got to be kinda slim pickings on any paydig site that advertises here and might be nice to have a new one pop up.
Ronny just mentioned it to us when we got back from Nacho's a couple of weeks ago, and I didn't get a chance at that time to ask him for more info. Saw him at the post office the other day and he was in a hurry, but that was the little information he gave me. If I see him again soon, I'll ask him for more precise details.
It could be the truck stop in Segovia, that's what he told me. I was just under the assumption that it was a Valero. He got the franchise for the new Valero Truckstop on IH35 and FM 140 here. I knew he had a truckstop on I10 west, but never paid much attention to where it was. We have never stopped anywhere but Ozona when heading out west. Usually on vacation, we want to get out of Tx. the first day so we don't dilly-dally around. When we're off, we're off in a cloud of beer cans.
Thanks for the phone number, I almost always drive thru Junction, on the way to Nachos from KS, so I will check it out & let you know what I learn next time I head down to dig.......John
Thanks John. I see that Will had posted on the 5th looking for something around Mt. Home. If this pans out, it might be something closer for him, or anyone else in that general vicinity.
lmao i wonder how many phone calls that truck stop is gonna be getting now , ( uh yea im callin from kansas ! i wanna know about yall's pay dig } sure hope the one runnin that pay dig is the owner or manager ! talk about getting personal calls on the job lol
OOOOOOOO Melvin, that's what friends are far. True arrowhead hunter, sheesh boy, I was picking up points before you was a gleam in your daddies eyes. First one I found was right after that ark dohicky landed. Me and the monkies were the first off the boat. I was already picking up frio points before the rest of the animals were unloaded.
Still waiting for you to post your double ended point. Never seen one of those before. Trade you a good clear fork for it. Heck of a good deal, not everybody has a clear fork found by the one and only Tehuacana.
Had heard from you in a while, figure Nacho's mud fest had finally got you down. Young whippersnapper.
OK YOU WIN Still sick to my stomach about the break i caused on that double base point . Will try and post soon though. Yes you did get a good head start on me as far as finding arrowheads , but i dont have any monkeys to help me gather them.
Gotta start training them when they're young. One good point is worth one banana. Gotta watch the smart ones tho. They'll learn how to knap them if your not carefull. Nothing worse then a chimp made cornertang. Already saw one of those one e-bay.
Hurry up and post your finds. Need a new screensaver on my computer. Wife wouldn't let me use my pic. of dino dung as the new wallpaper, still got to look at fuzzy cats.
Well Michelle, if that dig at Segovia turns out to be good, and she wants to advertise here, I think that ought to be worth a couple of free t-shirts to a couple of your loyal fans. Ya know, I was instrumental in finding a new locale. Hint, hint. Make mine an xlarge and a small for Melvin..
We're kinda cheap here, poor, poor surface hunters.
Bahha!!! If you think that I get PAID for ads dear... You are mistaken!! Those other sites charge not me.
Why do you think "I" was selling Tee-shirts! hehe
No charge for the ad's dear, you can pass that along.. so not alot of free bee's to pass around darlin.. Sorry!! I am poor folk too! Neither Hal nor I sell points either! I guess that makes us all just a bunch of poor rock collectors!
Ah well, guess that's why we all pick up the funny rocks. Hopefully somebody will find out something about the new dig. Ronny did say that when she opened it, she was not charging, just letting friends come out. They started taking advantage of her, bringing out their own backhoes and such. That's when she change the rules and started running it as a regular paydig site. He didn't know a lot about it. Points are not his interest. He hasn't invited us out to his ranch north of town either.
This is starting to sound very much like the very famous " lost Dutchman Site " of Texas !
The Arizona lost dutch put the small village of Tucson on the world maps !
Be interesting to see if some rich Californians have built a mega " diggers resort" in Segovia ? All high end amenities including tool rentals so that guests
can wander off into the hills, never to be seen again.
No loss, credit card voucher signed on checkin.
Potential prospectors might check with the Segovia Chamber of Commerce, visitors and convention center or even the Amtrak vacation getaway office for " genuwine " athentic maps .
Well SH, I figured I would get at least one "free dig at Sabinal" hit. Didn't think it would be you,
The CoC in Segovia may have the information too.
David Ronald Petty's office # at his Goodyear dealership is 830-334-9468 0r 2114. He only gave me what information he had as he owns the truckstop, he has someone else managing it. He got this info. from them. He could offer little else.
I'm not twisting anyones arm to check out the new site. We are not infested with paydig sites and if someone can find a relatively unknown or new site, it increases the area and makes it more accessable distance wise. It is up to those localy to see if it is a feasable dig.
If SH, you want a Dutchmans Mine, check out the Treasure of the Rock Pens. It is located somewhere south east of Cotulla. Spanish payroll shipment to Fort Ewell on the Nueces River, hidden by the soldiers after being ambushed by bandits. It's documents South Texas History.
Yeek ! No offence meant Te, I was just struck by the similarity of two known good sites that just need some more research.
As you say, ANY pay dig sites are most welcome. Hope those closer to the area have good luck, a truck stop visit may have better results than a phone call.
Thats a cool lead on the "Rock Pens" trove, I had not heard of that one. Unfortunatly I'm a bit tied up right now trying to home in on a story I read about,
in some small village called ElDorado. [ not the one where the religious fanatics just got into trouble, must be another ElDorado farther south.]
None taken SH. I've heard of this Treasure of the Rock Pens before, and a few years back they ran an article in the San Antonio Express news about it. When I first heard about it I said "Yeah, Right"
Spanish soldiers bringing in a payroll shipment to Fort Ewell, ambushed by bandits, killed all the bandits, only two surviving soldiers. Soldiers were all shot up,crawled back to the fort and before they died tried to give the location. Silver was never found. They had built a wall/fence/pens for protection while they were fighting off the bandits. Good story, but I didn't believe it. Come to find out it's true. I've seen articles about it in several books on Texas history and Texas lore. Maps still show the Fort Ewell site on the Nueces river-GPS coordinates N28 8' 42.9" - W99 1' 47.8". I have been all over that area and like west Tex. you don't even see a telephone pole for miles. Did find a natural lake of crude oil out there tho. Seeped out of the ground. Wasn't an oil spill either, it was still bubbling out of the ground. Wasn't a leaking crude line either, I know the difference. Future tar pit?
HEy guys, better late than never ,but I live about a half hour from Segovia and ya'll have got my curiosity all cooked up. As soon as I am able to get that way I will pass on any good or bad news
Appreciate it Will. I remember you'd posted recently asking if anything was around Mt. Home. I'm just relaying what Ronny told me. Hopefully it'll be a new site for anyone living in that area.
Tehuacana
I contacted Segovia on the matter at hand and was able to get a big duuuhhhhh. the woman italked to said there is alot of EPA activity there though.I don't know with what. Search on,Iguess
Te, that C of C thought was more for well established well known travel destinations like the " lost dutchman mine" The Segovia site probably has not been "lost" long enough yet !
Having a rep on site like Will T is great. If all else fails. . . maybe he would stake out the truck stop each morning, then when the diggers arrive for the usual breakfast of Tacos & beer, he could check the truck beds for wiggle picks. . . .
follow them and VOILA !
Sounds like the long awaited easy money trip is immenent ! Think positive. . . It's a tough economy, You MUST win for the sake of some poor pay dig manager that needs your contribution !
Maybe try a four leaf clover instead of a dead rabbits foot. . . good luck
Will do SH. Usually hit LaBarge on the way to Coushatta. Gotta spread the weatlh around. Just wish their high limit room was bigger. They don't have any $100 slot machines.
We should be back Thurs. and I'll see if I can squeeze any more info. from Ronny. Don't want everybody else having to do all the leg work if I can help out.
