Tiny points from the west

Howdy, Someone asked about the small points I've found. No none from gold bearing quartz but here are some of my finds from mainly Fort Rock Valley and Christmas Lake Valley in SE Oregon. Mostly Paiute stuff. Largest points in the pic are maybe 1 1/4" long. Many of these are what we Californians call flake points as they are knapped from very thin obsidian flakes and are often have a very flat cross section. Thanks for looking.....Mel

Re: Tiny points from the west

Pretty cool man, wish we had some obsidian points down this way. I have only seen one that a friend found up in north texas. We thought it was glass for the longest time.

Re: Tiny points from the west

yeah those are some really cool points. i'd like to find arrowheads in oregon sometime.

Re: Tiny points from the west

Very nice Mel, I just took a drift through the far west { FW } chapter of the money book for an idea of
whats going on out in them thar parts.
They really had a lot of OBSIDIAN, BANDED OBSIDIAN, COLORED OBSIDIAN, BASALT and "GEM MATERIAL"

When a thrown dart missed its Wapiti target and hit a rock, it must have been a very shattering exprience !

[ Gman ~ it was ! ]

Re: Tiny points from the west

i love the obsidian points , we find lots of obsidian flakes in one area we hunt but have never seen anything made from them , it must have been a precious material around there and not wasted , very nice finds you have there !
