The Williams type is characterized by an expanded rounded base. The Castroville type is distinctive for its broad and generally straight stem. The two types overlap age wise and were probably made by the same people.
Redman's observation is right on the money, a castroville base tang...........too bad about the nicked ear. Almost a complete find. Still, very nice indeed.
