Definitly a congratulatory item. Nice. Should have been able to get a lot of torque
with that base form [ as opposed to more delicate dart points ]
But here's the "rest of the story". . . at least that bottom Montell has been defined by Gman as a "nick back"
because of it's small notching.
Your today's finds are a little different from your previous variety of postings, not just because all Montells but the whole bunch is really sun bleached.
For me, thats usually a "washed down slope" condition.
The bleached white makes a great change from translucent rootbeer, until you have a few buckets of them !
Your right on the money Hal.The area i was digging in,is at the bottom of two draws.So,im sure its been washed out many times even though its dry as a bone now.Must have been an ol montell camp.My friend next to me found SIXTEEN montells,most broken.
Big debate last year on patina, lots of name calling, no firm resolution.
For me, patina is a discrete surface modification just like green on old copper. True sun bleached white appears to go uniformly right through.
Re $$, , , the quality, type and coloration of material is definitly supposed to justify
a higher price.
Gives a whole new meaning to;;
"Beauty is only skin deep, ugly goes right to the bone!"
Patina doesn't automatically make a artifact worth a bunch more, it just confirms that it's an original artifact that has oxidized over many thousands of years. Yes, a paleo point with patina is wroth more in some respects because it shows the authentic signs of age. BUT, there have been some duplicator's that have been able to replicate patina with paint & maybe some other methods, so beware of who you might buy, trade or barter a patinaed point with
