Though not Texas items Thought some might like to see what I was blessed with this morning and yesterday afternoon here at the house. :)
We just had a flood at the Santa Fe (the river our normal home is on) and water is now going down. Have had a lot of wood cut all over our property and began hauling and burning last night. Went to the river edge to cool down and was looking around and came upon this Hendricks scraper that had just been washed out. I went back to the house and told Dad, "That just for information, there was a pretty nice artifact to be found on the property". He immediately took flight and was on it....rothfl
This morning I was checking in with my wife as I normally do as she is on the other side of the state. I was walking around as I was talking and venteured to where I had pick up trees and brush last night. Actually to just keep a good signal on the phone. I had noticed last night some displaced sand and thought it was where the tree when I cut it down had sank into the sand.
As I walked over to it I was going to kick some of the sand back in but luckily looked down first. All I could hollar was, "I don't believe this"!!! The wife though I had ran into a big rattler....lol
It was a 3.5" Newnan a small gopher turtle had dug up and was just laying there!! Surface finds are hard to come by in Florida. Two things need to now be done. First catch that young turtle and teach him MORE on what to look for! Secondly I think this area will be our next dig site...rothfl
Don't think you did anything wrong with the pics. I think Michelle's new format on this site has something to do with it. There was some earlier post on pictures being cut off, they're not, you just have to click on them. Nice point. Shows even in Fla. there are good points.
I'm a happy customer of yours, you guys do great work! For anyone that has any doubts, below is a frame of your work. A ear here, and a tip there, great work you guys do!
Thorn, you win the report of the week [ year ? ] award, thats a great story. And such a great point
even, the turtle could've kicked out just a small broken base !
Re the overall site pics, that appears to be a really well formed mound. Do they have "mound" camps in that part of Fl ? If so you may have to forget the plans for the new boathouse on that site. . . . .
A new tool shed may be more apropriate.
Turtles make great digging buddies [ they dont mooch your cold beer ! ]
