Lago Vista

Re: points from LV

gotcha

Re: points from LV

I own some property at LV, but there are no indian camps on it. The black one appears to have a shattered base, so theres not much way of identifying it's type. I do like the reddish swirls in it though. Thanks for sharing your photos with us.

maybe no camps but so close to the lake there are plenty around.

Re: points from LV

Geez Trav, The man's asking what he's got, not where he lives !

The most complete one looks close to a scallorn, about 1000 yrs BP.
The pretty baseless one, you'll never know !
Just because the last one has some largeness, its probably from the earlier time period, like 2 to 3000 + yrs BP.

You lake Travis folks are in for an interesting time this summer. The lake level may hit an extreme low, So for shore walkers that reveals a lot of new hunting ground. No guarentees though, the light coating of
natural algae dries hard so everything is pretty much the same color, have to look for shape rather than
color.
Low water also does not guarantee a bonanza, it just means thats new areas that other surfacers have not covered.
Assumeing YOU are the first at the new low water. IF you can do some homework [ and there are plenty of others at the lake that do ] if you locate a known indian camp, ANYWHERE down slope, your find chances are extremely high.
Just to see what its all about. If you make your way down to Point Venture, just downstream from the floating restaurant [ used to be shades ] on the city park grounds [ open to the public ] look inside the tree line, plenty of midden fire rock and flakes from a campsite.

Enjoy the low while you can but keep most of your valuables upstairs in you house. Most WX reporters are showing a definite shift of the El Nino condition
that might bring rains and flooding like the lousy wet season central TX had in 07

There are other great treasures to be found when the water goes down that was dropped by boaters OR,
you might be the first in your neighborhood to find a stollen car dropped by theives !
