Hal, I swear. You beat me to the punch again. That looks just like a fiberglass hammer handle in your digfest wiggle pick tool donation. Considering that most fiberglass handle hammers are permanently bonded to the head, Im impressed as how the welding was done without damaging the fiberglass handle.... good job.
Gil, I was working on that handle concept a year or so ago then got sidetarcked on other tools.!
Swiveled the vise to line up with a small bucket of water. The whole hammer head was under water while
welding the exposed attach points. Dipped the entire thing
at least 8 times in the process to be sure the hot pick end did not transfer unwanted heat. Left the hammer peen part of the hammer as a heat sink till
all hot work done. Finish grinding and peen cutoff has to be dipped frequently to avoid damage just as its so close to being finished.
It's a nice pick but I now prefer the detatchable or folding heads anyway !
Nate, people that make their own WP to suit their own tool handling style name their own angle of attack!
Badger's is close to a 90*, a good option for a lot of one handed work.
I prefer angled UP, like 95*
My variable geometry torque converter was born from having to work in tighter spaces among the boulders !
