Just thought that I would share a repro frame with everyone. The biggest piece in the frame is 8 inches and the points are made from Burlington chert, aggate, several types of obsidian, and comanche chert. Hope you enjoy.
Well I finally made a start !
I'm tired of just looking at those modern repo's made out of exotic material from around the world.
I'm startin small then pick up a piece at any Flint show that has something unusual.
PEA**** OBSIDION
BRAZILION AGATE
I really bought the SUNSET JASPER, EDEN more for the flacking detail !
After the FredB flint show, I drove over to Seguin to visit the open house of the Mckee site.
Right at the walkin gate was a superb display of modern knapping.
Dan almost exclusively uses the most exotic minerals he can lay hands on...it's quite a sight.
Overall shot. Just put the eye on that closest frame !
This is pretty mundane flint but check the L E N G T H of that middle one
Here's the bargain bucket...slightly lesser wierd materials but all supper knapping.

I got my treasures from Hershall & Yvette of WICHITA TRADING Company. . . huge selection, good people
Re: hey Hal, what site in seguin were you refering to?
Really like that pea**** obsidian, just wondering if it's the same thing as rainbow obsidian? Saw a show on Travelchannel where the native Americans still make points out of it for sale. Watched one of them knap one out on the show.
Re: hey Hal, what site in seguin were you refering to?
rg, the knapping demonstrators were setup on the Mckee site open house grounds. The folks in the pic with me are collector / dealers for a large number of
independant professional knappers.
Te, This variety of obsidion was from Utah. I wouldnt know scientifically how or what areas
they define the different types. This piece is pretty subtle depending on the light source. Maybe rainbow could be seen from across the room.
Here's a repro story:::
Dan T walked with me along the display tables pointing out some of the materials, siliconised sandstone, a frame from Madagascar. on & on.
Someday I might find an arrowhead out of quartz with the natural gold veins included. For years I had my thoughts fixed on the Florida fossilised
coral points as being really unique. . .BUT. . . .
Dan showed me a real one of a kind I may get back to him on if my stimulous money check comes through soon. . . .
A gorgeous yellow multi colored 3 1/2 inch point made out of COPROLITE.
One per show ! Here's my latest from the Fred show 1-30-10
Hershel of Wichita Trading company about to remove my choice from the case.
It's a SCOTTSBLUFF by design but I always buy for the material.
This is the " State stone of Texas " PETRIFIED PALM WOOD.
For those that might not have seen Palm Wood ( ptrified). Instead of traditional grain, there are
vertical capilaries in the structure that when cut across can either look like little "dots" OR at a bias, L O N G "dots"
The biggest Texas flint show of the year means special $$ offerings....
I met up with Dan Theus again and this time had the change to shop the discount box...I got 5 new additions.
The horizontal one is as clear as Amber.
The two to the right of the penny is by Jarrod....the white one is TX petrified palm wood...
One of Dan's acomplishments is a successful knapping copy of a Guatamalan cerimonial piece featured in Nat. Geo.
