Repro Frame

Just thought that I would share a repro frame with everyone. The biggest piece in the frame is 8 inches and the points are made from Burlington chert, aggate, several types of obsidian, and comanche chert. Hope you enjoy.

Re: Repro Frame

Well I finally made a start !
I'm tired of just looking at those modern repo's made out of exotic material from around the world.
I'm startin small then pick up a piece at any Flint show that has something unusual.

Photobucket

PEA**** OBSIDION

Photobucket

BRAZILION AGATE

Photobucket

I really bought the SUNSET JASPER, EDEN more for the flacking detail !

Photobucket

After the FredB flint show, I drove over to Seguin to visit the open house of the Mckee site.
Right at the walkin gate was a superb display of modern knapping.
Dan almost exclusively uses the most exotic minerals he can lay hands on...it's quite a sight.

Photobucket

Overall shot. Just put the eye on that closest frame !

Photobucket

This is pretty mundane flint but check the L E N G T H of that middle one

Photobucket

Here's the bargain bucket...slightly lesser wierd materials but all supper knapping.

Photobucket

dantheus@mac.com

I got my treasures from Hershall & Yvette of WICHITA TRADING Company. . . huge selection, good people

Photobucket

hey Hal, what site in seguin were you refering to?

Thanks for the nice pics, just curious if that's the family that discovered the encampment on their own homestead?

Re: hey Hal, what site in seguin were you refering to?

Really like that pea**** obsidian, just wondering if it's the same thing as rainbow obsidian? Saw a show on Travelchannel where the native Americans still make points out of it for sale. Watched one of them knap one out on the show.

Re: hey Hal, what site in seguin were you refering to?

woooowwwwww!!!!!! awsome repros!

Re: hey Hal, what site in seguin were you refering to?

rg, the knapping demonstrators were setup on the Mckee site open house grounds. The folks in the pic with me are collector / dealers for a large number of
independant professional knappers.

Te, This variety of obsidion was from Utah. I wouldnt know scientifically how or what areas
they define the different types. This piece is pretty subtle depending on the light source. Maybe rainbow could be seen from across the room.

Here's a repro story:::
Dan T walked with me along the display tables pointing out some of the materials, siliconised sandstone, a frame from Madagascar. on & on.
Someday I might find an arrowhead out of quartz with the natural gold veins included. For years I had my thoughts fixed on the Florida fossilised
coral points as being really unique. . .BUT. . . .
Dan showed me a real one of a kind I may get back to him on if my stimulous money check comes through soon. . . .

A gorgeous yellow multi colored 3 1/2 inch point made out of COPROLITE.

[ Does everybody know what coprolite is ? ]

Re: hey Hal, what site in seguin were you refering to?

Wow cool points, I've got a repro turkeytail just like the one at the top. Also coprolite, isn't that fossilized dinosaur crap?

Re: hey Hal, what site in seguin were you refering to?

I think that's what I heard Tucker.

Re: hey Hal, what site in seguin were you refering to?

Yep, heard of throwing it and slinging it, but this is a new way to kill a buffalo. Or an enemy Indian. Can you hear the stories now back at camp?

Re: hey Hal, what site in seguin were you refering to?

Nice exotic materials SH. What color is the pea**** obsidian with light showing through it?

Re: hey Hal, what site in seguin were you refering to?

Sorry about that eric!

Pea****! Bahah! Can't even say pea**** 'round here!

The Bad Word program got ya!

Sorry again! It catches some strange stuff.

I have a new re-pros .. I will post um !

Re: Repro Frame

One per show ! Here's my latest from the Fred show 1-30-10
Hershel of Wichita Trading company about to remove my choice from the case.

Photobucket

It's a SCOTTSBLUFF by design but I always buy for the material.
This is the " State stone of Texas " PETRIFIED PALM WOOD.

Photobucket

For those that might not have seen Palm Wood ( ptrified). Instead of traditional grain, there are
vertical capilaries in the structure that when cut across can either look like little "dots" OR at a bias, L O N G "dots"

Photobucket

Re: Repro Frame

Austin Digger shopper "WhiteShirt" buy's a repro treasure from Jarod at the Fred show. . .

Photobucket

Is that the endangered species,Bastrop black janguar in the back round ???

Photobucket

Re: hey Hal, what site in seguin were you refering to?

wow i love the palm wood somebody please teach me how to knapp i already know how to nap

Re: hey Hal, what site in seguin were you refering to?

Nother flint show, nother repro for the collection..

Still in frame, pink collored Ohio Flint Ridge material fashioned into a GRAHAM CAVE was my choice.
Photobucket

Here's Hershale of Witchita Trading Co. Note all the repros that can be seen on his tables.
Photobucket

Close ups of all 3 repos I got this trip can be seen under " SPRINGTIME IN TEXAS TOPIC "

Re: Repro Frame

William made these two neat repros out of a marbled Obsidion.
Photobucket

Then he GAVE the dove tail to Badger. . .
Photobucket

Re: Repro Frame

Another show, another repro for the collection..
A Lost Lake point out of Picture rock from Utah..

Photobucket

It's the lower item

Re: Repro Frame

The biggest Texas flint show of the year means special $$ offerings....
I met up with Dan Theus again and this time had the change to shop the discount box...I got 5 new additions.

The horizontal one is as clear as Amber.
The two to the right of the penny is by Jarrod....the white one is TX petrified palm wood...

Photobucket

One of Dan's acomplishments is a successful knapping copy of a Guatamalan cerimonial piece featured in Nat. Geo.

Re: Repro Frame

Another flint show, another new aquisition....I just bought that little green one from the Wichita Trading people..

Photobucket

Imperial agate material

Photobucket

"going green" is IN these days

Photobucket

Jarrod ( Dwain R associate ) specialises in local Texas materials....

Re: Repro Frame

Temple flint show 6-4-11 means another good oppurtunity to add to a reproduction collection

Gerrod has beautiful works

Photobucket

I was very tempted to use this ordinary Andice as an " Insitu "

Photobucket

But then some sharp eyed appraiser might notice the tag

Photobucket

Dealer Paul Kinyon knows of my repro collecting gave me an 'Eden' made out of Tx Alibates material

Photobucket

We're all a bit weary of a "point in the hand" presentation...here's a change of pace.

Photobucket

I metup with Okalhoma Alvin at Chrisners after the Temple show.. He gave two repro's to Badger & I

Photobucket

I gave Badger first choice...She took the red one.
Both are Mexican Agate material

Photobucket

Thanks a lot Al
