Another Good Day at Campwood

Hit TJ's again yesterday. Didn't do as good as the week before, but still some good finds. Flicker found the Bell variant, (top point), and I thought the bottom left was an angustora. But general concenses is an Early Stemmed. A lot of really colorful flint is coming out of there. Like the broken covington on the right. There were people from all over out there yesterday. Idaho, Missourri, Florida, and the Texas bunch from Waco and Uvalde. They ended up with a mixed bag of angustoras, bells, nolans, etc. Plus a nutting stone and an orcher stone. I found some red orcher, but not thinking that's what it was at the time, chunked it. Melvin found a killer Kinney blade, waiting for him to post it.

This is a pic. of the new hole TJ started on yesterday PM. Shows three different occupational zones. The hole is about 8' - 10'.

Nacho is coming out today to help TJ. Brought his bobcat and screens. We walked around at noon and there are undug middens all over the place. We're gonna hit it again before the end of the month.

Re: Another Good Day at Campwood

good finds Tehuacana. looks like a good trip.

Re: Another Good Day at Campwood

Wellll, a Bell Varient is worth the trip. AND. . It didnt RAIN !

All those camps ! What a location ! Thats the kind of property a person could buy and retire to digging, to die
at age 103. [ assuming he retired at age 17 naturally ]

Civilization at 8'+ down. . . the mind boggles !

Re: Another Good Day at Campwood

They were digging midden rock and ash out of the bottom. Were still hunting for the edge of the midden when we left.
No rain, but it wasn't that hot, think around 102 at 5.
TJ said the land sold for around a quarter mil. Pretty good for 11 acres. Too small for farm land. Mabbe put a couple of goats on it. He said the new owner wasn't interested in the artifacts. And there was another piece of property between this one and the river. So no river front on it. Lot of money for some dirt and a few trees.

Re: Another Good Day at Campwood

sure wish the backhoe could get rid of that midden rock and let us just dig the dirt under it. You did have some nice finds.

Re: Another Good Day at Campwood

Something strange about that land deal. Thats $22,000. per one acre of non waterfront land in a
remote area of the world.
With the big number of campsites identified even goats wont be interested in fire rock soil after they eat the existing grass roots.

Maybe its the California real estate flippers moving out of the Austin area.
Camp wood, "live music capital of the west " has a beautiful
ring to it !

Re: Another Good Day at Campwood

Ah, just to own a piece of the hill country. Some people have more money then brains. Guess that's why I feed slot machines in the middle of a swamp. Don't know why it's so high, but I'd already heard from an outside source that that's what it sold for. We looked at a ranch that was for sale near Nacho's. 8,000 acres, 33 million dollars. Sure have to raise a lot of goats on it just to pay the interest.
