Bone awl

What was the Bone awl used for??? Dug up a complete 5.5 inch 1 this past Friday in Hamilton CO

Re: Bone awl

How about a pic of it?

Re: Bone awl

Punching holes in rawhide in preperation to stitching is the use that first comes to most peoples mind.
But it was probably a common utility tool in the kitchen for processing some nuts and fruits.
In the nursery to clean juniors fingernails etc.

One pic is worth a lotta words.

5.5 Inch Bone Awl

Re: Pic of Bone awl

Looks like a nice one. We find them frequently in our cave site, and they can get up to a foot in length. Look for polishing from the tip back. SH has give a good description of their usages.
