dad found this last christmas, he thought it was junk and threw it away, so naturally i picked it up. it has two notches in the middle of the back, and it has a break where a tang would have been.a c-tang base has been found at the site, it was found in the ensor layer, has two obvious notches in the back, and is sharpened. here is the kicker its only worked on one side, so maybe it isnt what it seemed to be at first, and is just a flake scraper, but from what i have heard hafted flake scrapers arent usually notched. so what do you think? ever seen one before?
So I guess my question is now can a unifacial tool be considered a mid back tang? Also thanks for help and compliments, I'm just tryin to keep it interesting
sweet find whatever it is. I would say it could be any one of the things already mentioned. First impression for me was maybe mid-back tang. Who knows, maybe the maker of it wanted a mid-back tang and got lazy and just worked one side. There's no telling. Thanks for sharing it with us.
