dirt dragging tarps

hey SH or Michelle, or anyone else who has one, what are the dimensions on the tarps that you use to drag the dirt away when you are digging? 3'x5' or so?
I saw them in use during Digfest and that looks a bit easier than using a shovel. So I figured that I would make one and try it out for myself.
Thanks in advance.

Re: dirt dragging tarps

Get smallest tarp available, about 4.5 X 7.0 cut in half = 4.5 X 3.5. Harbor freight $4. Home Depot $6.

Best ropes, 2 ,6 foot 1/4 inch poly [ lousy for a lot of uses, great for tarps ]
2 plastic pipes, 10 inches real easy on the hands, slipped onto ropes before tying final knots.

NB> DONT just use the holes & grommets to attach rope. Ignore the holes and just scrunch the
corners together. Looks ugly at first but continuous use with that much strain works best.

Re: dirt dragging tarps

thanks SH. I will make one this weekend and hopefully get a chance to use it soon.
